Hi All,

(previous Email should have been about Madrid 2011 - not 2009)

For the Madrid IUCr 2011 congress, normally each commission gets to nominate
at least one plenary speaker. (in the case of the computing commission, one
plenary speaker is normally the maximum we can expect)

At Osaka 2008 we had Gabor Oszlanyi discuss Charge Flipping, which was
a nicely attended plenary.

Can we get a list of suggested plenary speakers going so we can try and
choose one from a list?

Two suggestions I have are:

Garib Murshudov: Overview of potential and practical optimisation techniques for
                  crystallography
(Garib gave a very good talk on this at the Kyoto 2008 school - though focussed
    on macromolecular crystallography.)

W. Steurer (or related co-worker) on Charge Flipping and Low-density Elimination for
solving difficult very large non-protein structures.
(there have been some recent nice papers on solving some very large intermetallic
    structures using these methods)

Garib would be my personal first preference.

Other suggestions?

Lachlan
