Acting Chairman of the Computing Commission

Dear all

Following the confirmation of Lachlan's tragic death, The IUCr
Executive Committee has asked if I would be willing to stand in as
Chair of the Computing Commission until the Madrid General Assembly,
and I have accepted.

The EC also mentioned that it would be possible to appoint a
Secretary until then to help out the the extra duties that I will be
undertaking. I have asked Dr Amber Thompson of Oxford University if
she would be willing to do this; she has agreed, and I have suggested
to the EC that she is appointed. Many of you will know Amber from her
attendances at meetings around the world.

I should have asked the Commission Members before taking this step,
so I am doing so now. If I hear no objections in the next few days, I
will assume that there is general agreement that Amber should be
appointed.

Bear in mind that the Commission's work will be delayed until the
appointment is made - we have quite a bit of work to do over the next
few months.

Looking forward to your replies,

Harry
