That was added precisely to _allow_ the bracketed constructs (which at that time were intented all to be carried by []) to have a non-conflicting place in a CIF. Most cif parsers know nothing about that restriction and would just carry [1,2,3] as an ordinary non-delimited string. ===================================================== Herbert J.
