MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARIAT TO ALL ICSTI MEMBERS
*************************************************

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I must announce to those of you who
knew him that Jacques Gravesteijn passed away on 5 July in Orléans, after
having fought a cancer for one full year. He was 69 years old.

Jacques was associated with ICSU AB and then ICSTI as the representative of
the French BRGM, and then of IUGS from 1970 until 1997 when he retired. He
was one of the most active and enthousiastic contributors to the
Multilingual Thesaurus of Geosciences, a long-term project conducted by a
joint ICSTI-IUGS Working Group. He was one of the editors of both the first
version of the Thesaurus published in 1988 and of the second edition
published in 1995, and continued to participate in the ongoing maintenance
of the database until his retirement.

If you wish to write to Mrs. Gravesteijn, the address is:

613 rue Bretonniere
45160 Olivet, France

With best regards,

Marthe Orfus
