MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARIAT TO ALL ICSTI MEMBERS
*************************************************

The Winter committee meetings - as they are usually called - have been for
several years open to all ICSTI members - not only the actual 'committee
members'. The programme is also wider than implied by the name, since it
always includes at least a half day discussion session on a topical issue.
So a better name may be 'ICSTI Winter meetings'.

The Executive Bureau has had extensive discussion on the organization of
the ICSTI Winter meetings to be held in January 2000. It was agreed that
they will be extended by one day in order to include a workshop to follow
up the Digital Archiving issues in collaboration with ICSU Press, NFAIS,
CENDI etc. The programme is being worked out and more details will soon be
posted. In the meantime, please note the following preliminary information:

- DATES OF MEETINGS: From Saturday 29 to Monday 31 January 2000, with
technical and business meetings on Saturday all day and Sunday morning, and
the workshop on Digital Archiving issues on Sunday afternoon and Monday
(until 4 PM.)

- PLACE OF MEETINGS: ICSTI Headquarters in Paris.

We hope that many of you will be able to attend.

Marthe Orfus
