Thanks Gail,

I think this is a very important meeting. It may be the link between the work being
undertaken in many areas of academia on what is broadly referred to as the
"Semantic Web" - Tim Berners-Lee's concept for the future Web where everything
is webbed by having machine readable interrelationships. Ontologies and other
forms of metadata are critical to this. Whilst the more "hard nosed" in the
information community may be cynical, there is a considerable momentum
building up behind the Semantic Web and whatever develops will impact
information producers and distributors. In "our" world we have considerable action
around "click through" - the ability to link references, this is typical Semantic Web-
like activity.

I would be very grateful if any ICSTI Member attending would be willing to write up
a report for Forum, do I hear a volunteer??

Thanks in advance,

Barry
