Subject: PostDoc research position at HMI "SANS studies of Magnetic
colloids"

HMI, Berlin (Germany) currently has opening for one RESEARCH SCIENTIST

The Berlin Neutron Scattering Center (BENSC) at the Hahn- Meitner Institut ,
Berlin, Germany is looking for a scientist to participate in the research
project
"Structural characterization of nanoscaled materials by Small Angle Neutron
Scattering (SANS)".
An excellent opportunity exists in the experimental study of mesoscopic
structures and stability of magnetic colloids ("Ferrofluides"). The
knowledge of density, composition and magnetization fluctuations are crucial
for potential technical and medical applications of new materials. Detailed
information about these parameters in the magnetically ordered nanoparticles
and the constitution of the nonmagnetic shell are obtained by SANS using the
recently developed technique of polarized neutrons

The research is embedded in the frame of a long-term priority project of the
German Research Society (DFG)
http://www.maschinenbau.tu-ilmenau.de/mb/wwwtd/hydromag/ferro/start.html

We expect to be looking for a highly motivated scientist with a Ph.D. in
condensed matter physics, experimental physical chemistry, chemical
engineering or materials science. Experience in any of the following areas
would be an advantage: Neutron Diffraction, Materials science, Modelling.
There is strong interaction and collaboration between BENSC and external
laboratories participating in the DFG priority project. This interaction
provides opportunities for independent and collaborative research. The
successful candidate will assist BENSC users in conducting their experiments
and will be expected to participate in the operation and development of the
SANS instrument.
The post gives an excellent opportunity for young postdoctoral scientists to
broaden their experience and develop their expertise by interacting with
leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more experienced
scientists who are able to obtain a secondment period from their home
institute will also be considered.
The appointment will be for a fixed term of 3 years with possible extension.
The annual salary (BAT IIa) ranges between DM 80,000 and DM 90,000 depending
on relevant experience and family status.

For further details about the post,
please contact Dr. A. Wiedenmann,

An application with curriculum vitae and a list of publications should be
sent, quoting reference SF 00/35 , to
