            NEUTRON SPIN ECHO SPECTROMETER INSTRUMENT SCIENTIST

                    NIST CENTER FOR NEUTRON RESEARCH
              NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) is seeking qualified candidates
for an anticipated opening as a Neutron Spin Echo Spectrometer (NSE)
Instrument Scientist. A recent Ph.D. in experimental Condensed Matter or
Materials Physics--or in Materials Science or Chemical Physics--who has
studied dynamical phenomena in soft matter using scattering techniques or
nuclear magnetic resonance is sought to share the responsibilities
associated with the operation of the NCNR NSE. These responsibilities
include helping visiting researchers conduct experiments and reduce data;
testing, calibrating, and maintaining the spectrometer; and participating
in instrument and equipment development projects, including software
development. These duties are intended to occupy no more than two-thirds
of the instrument scientist's time, allowing him/her to conduct independent
or collaborative research using the NSE and other facilities at the NCNR.

The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of a one-
or two-year extension. The salary may range from $45,000 to $55,000,
depending on qualifications and experience.
