Postdoctoral positions available
Università
degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata” , Centro NAST.
Titles of the Research projects:
1) Instrumentation for neutron scattering applied to the
investigation of materials of Cultural Heritage interest;
2) Instrumentation for neutron scattering for investigation of ‘single
event effects’ in semiconductor microelectronic chips
Description of work
The successful candidates will be involved in experimental
research and instrument development at different neutron centres in Europe but
mainly at the
For position 1) the
postdoc will be involved in the development, design and commissioning of the
integrated neutron techniques, i.e. neutron resonant capture analysis
(NRCI/NRT), neutron and gamma detector modules and other hardware components.
The aim is to develop NRCI as a non-invasive technique for determining 3D
distributions of elements in art and archaeological objects. The post holder
will be involved in the hardware and software development of the NRCI
components, and will be part of the experimental team at
For position 2) the
postdoc will be involved in the research program for the development of detector
systems for neutron dosimetry in the 1-100 MeV range, fast neutron
attenuators, sample positioning tables, and will be part of the experimental
team at ISIS for the chip irradiation measurements at the
Qualification and experience
The successful candidates must hold a PhD in Physics, Materials
Science related science or engineering subjects, and must have an interest in
developing neutron-based methods. Applicants are expected to possess a solid
scientific background in their relevant discipline. Previous experience on
neutron-based analysis techniques and computer simulation techniques for the
design of neutron instruments is desirable but not necessary. Candidates should
have excellent communication skills.
Interested applicants are invited to email a CV and 2 letter of
reference to Prof.
Salary is in the range 40000 Euro – 45000 Euro per annum,
dependent on skills and ability.
