General Announcement and Second Circular

The Eighteenth General Assembly of the IUCr and the Eighteenth International Congress of Crystallography will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, 4-13 August 1999, at the invitation of The Royal Society on behalf of the British Crystallographic Association. Registration, the Opening Ceremony and the presentation of the Fifth Ewald Prize will take place on Wednesday 4 August.

The scientific programme will include invited lectures, microsymposia, workshops and poster sessions. There will be morning and afternoon plenary sessions. Exhibits of commercial and non-commercial equipment and books, as well as crystallographic software and database demonstrations, will also be held. An Internet café will be available to all participants. Professor J.A.K. Howard is Chair of the Programme Committee and Professor C. Gilmore is Chair of the Organizing Committee. A dedicated accommodation agent has been appointed to handle all the accommodation requirements.

The Second Circular will appear in Volume 6, No. 3 of the IUCr Newsletter, which is scheduled to go to press in October 1998. It will contain a call for papers, the general arrangements and registration forms.
