General Announcement and Second Circular

The Twentieth General Assembly of the IUCr and the Twentieth International Congress of Crystallography will be held at the Congress Citadel, Florence, 23-31 August 2005, at the invitation of the National Research Council and the Italian Association of Crystallography. Registration, the Opening Ceremony and the presentation of the Seventh Ewald Prize will take place on Tuesday 23 August 2005.

The scientific programme will include invited lectures, microsymposia, workshops and poster sessions. There will be morning and afternoon Keynote Lectures. Exhibits of commercial and non-commercial equipment and books, as well as crystallographic software and database demonstrations, will also be held. An Internet café will be available to all participants. Professor Carlo Mealli is Chair of the Programme Committee and Professor Paola Paoli is Chair of the Organizing Committee.

The Second Circular will appear in Volume 12, No. 3 of the IUCr Newsletter, which is scheduled to go to press in October 2004. It will contain the scientific programme of the Congress as elaborated by the Programme Committee and approved by the IUCr Executive Committee, a call for papers, details of the general arrangements and registration forms.
