Ludo Frevel Scholarships

The ICDD Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship Committee has selected ten recipients for the 2009 Scholarship Program. These recipients were selected, on a competitive basis, from forty-five commendable applications received by the ICDD Scholarship Committee. The recipients are: Tobias Beck, Goettingen U., Germany (Metal Sites in Proteins), Hui Li, Chinese Acad. of Sciences, P.R. China (GaN and AIN Based Diluted Magnetic Semiconductor and Superconductor, and eight in the USA, Olaf Borkiewicz, Miami U., (Actinide Sequestration in Low Temperature Growth of Apatite), Dejan-Kresimir Bucar, U. Iowa, (Metallosupramolecular Capsules with Nanometer-Sized Cavities Solid State), Amado Guloy, Northwestern U. (Charge Density Wave), E-Wen Huang, U. Tennessee (Mechanical Behavior of a Nano-particle Strengthened Nickel-based Alloy), Andrey Ivankin, Illinois Inst. Tech. (Determining the Role of Cholesterol in Cell Membrane Physicochemical Properties: and Insight from Synchrotron X-ray Scattering), Christian Long, U. of Maryland (Structural Phases in Combinatorial Thin-Film Libraries Using Non-Negative Matrix Factorization), Mary Louie, California Inst. of Technology (Phase Transformation Hysteresis), Anna-Gay Nelson. Auburn U. (Structural Chemistry of Actinide Shoshones for Storing Radionuclides).

Each student will receive $2,500 to assist in the continuation of studies in his or her selected field of crystallographic research.
