[Paracyclophane]

The crystal structure of C16H14Br2S2 was determined as a contribution to a structural study of dithia[3.3]paracyclophane derivatives with bromine substituents. The short distance of 3.313 (5) Å between the centroids of the two benzene rings is less than the normal packing distance (3.4 Å) between aromatic rings in organic compounds, thus supporting potential transannular π-π interaction between the rings in the cyclophane unit. The crystal packing exhibits weak intermolecular S...S contacts of 3.538 (2) Å.
