A novel event correlation scheme for X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy

J. Appl. Cryst. (2012). 45, 807-813 (http://doi.org/h95)

[Correlation function] Two-time correlation function of an organic molecular glass, DC705.

Experimental access to slow dynamics at atomic and molecular length scales is challenging but important for the understanding of structural relaxations in disordered systems, e.g. glasses and supercooled liquids. X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy was used to measure structural relaxations at the molecular scale in organic glasses. A novel method applicable to weak signals is described, allowing fast calculations of time correlations by an event correlation scheme. This method may be the only possible path forward in analyzing huge data sets acquired at X-ray free-electron lasers.
