New Wellcome Trust publisher requirements

wellcome logoThe Wellcome Trust has recently introduced a set of requirements for publishers of Wellcome-funded open-access articles (https://wellcome.ac.uk/funding/managing-grant/publisher-requirements) and we are pleased to announce that IUCr Journals meet these requirements.
For all open-access articles, the IUCr handles the deposition of the final version of an article with PubMed Central on behalf of the author. The IUCr provides PubMed Central with a rich set of information for each article including the article as a PDF, an XML version of the article plus supplementary information and other files. Any updates to the article are also made available to PMC. All open-access articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) Licence.

The benefits of open access for readers are clear but authors also benefit as articles have increased visibility, are more widely read, are cited sooner and achieve higher citation rates. Currently, two of the nine IUCr Journals are fully open access, i.e. all articles are made available free of charge to the reader, and the remaining seven include a mix of open-access and subscription-only articles.

Further information about open access at IUCr Journals can be found at http://journals.iucr.org/services/openaccess.html.

The IUCr has been an early adopter of open access and is also delighted to be an early adopter of the new Wellcome Trust publisher requirements.
