The conference was held February 11-13, in Mysore City, which has the reputation for architectural heritage and colorful streets. The conference was opened by R. Chidambaram, former IUCr Vice-President and current Principal Secretary to the Government of India. A total of 350 delegates included people from the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Japan. The conference was organized into two parallel sessions covering several topics including crystal engineering, drug receptor and antigen-antibody recognition, diffraction methods, charge density, computational crystallographic database research, powder X-ray diffraction, inorganic and mineral structures, teaching methods, layers, thin films and polymers. A total of 201 posters were displayed. The local committee organized a special cultural program along with a conference dinner. The lecture by M. Vijayan on 'Form and functions in proteins' was attended not only by the official delegates but by scores of students from nearby colleges and research institutes. The program concluded by honoring senior teachers of the U. of Mysore at an evening function. Financial support by MARresearch, Rigaku, PANalytical and others are greatly appreciated.
