The use of (-carbolines has been instrumental for the development of the inverse agonist / agonist pharmacophore of the benzediazepine receptor site(BzR). The BzR plays a central role in the molecular mechanism controlling anxiety, memory learning, sleep, convulsant and proconvulsant activities. In view of the above importance we report the crystallographic study of one of the (-carboline derivatives. Preliminary results :C30H20N2O4S2, P1bar, a = 10.184(1), b = 10.941(1), c = 13.441(1), ( = 84.80(2), ( = 67.94(1) and ( = 82.65(2). The crystal structure was solved by Direct methods and refined to a final R value of 0.055. The conformational features will be presented.
