IUCr - Travel Grants

New as of June 5

Requests for various forms of financial support continue to arrive at the Secretariat. The travel grant program was announced in the first circular and the deadline for submission of formal applications for support of Feb. 15 was extended to March 15, 1996. The review process conducted by committee's of the US Nation committee was completed May 1. Offers of support have been extended to 120 applicants whose proposals were ranked in order of recommended priority. Over 200 additional applicants could not be funded at this time.

If additional funds become available, support for applicants who submitted propasals before May 13 will take priority over any requests submitted after that deadline. We regret that the secretariat connot respond to all late requests individually.

New as of May 23

Applications for financial support toward Congess expenses have been reviewed by independent panels appointed by the US National Committee for Crystallography. Only those individuals whose applications were received before the official closing date of March 15, 1996 were considered. Notice to Russian Crystallographers

The Congress Organizing Committee will submit an application for travel support to the Logovaz program of the International Science Foundation. The program is designed to assist Russian scientists attend international professional conferences in their discipline. Only scientists presenting a talk or a poster at the Congress are eligible for consideration. If the application is successful, the Foundation will pay for travel to and from the meeting site and the Congress organizers will waive the regular registration fee. Because of limitations in the overall funds available to the Congress for participant support, crystallographers supported in this way must be able to cover their living expenses while attending the Congress. A maximum of ten scientists, nominated by the Organizing Committee may be supported in this way. Individual scientists may not apply to the Logovaz program.

Russian colleagues wishing to be considered for these awards should indicate this on the Congress Travel Grant application form and should provide written confirmation of their willingness and ability to meet their own on-site expenses.
