Computing School

The 1996 IUCr Computing School will be held August 17 - 22, 1996 on the campus of Western Washington University. Bus transportation for the two hour bus ride from Seattle to Bellingham will be provided. The main emphasis will be on computing techniques of macromolecular crystallography including data collection, structure solution, databases and methods of analyzing macromolecular results. Hands-on tutorial sessions will augment oral presentations. Further information on the School is accessible by clicking here. The school, hosted by the IUCr Commission on Computing, is co-chaired by Philip Bourne, San Diego Supercom puter Ctr., PO Box 85608, San Diego, CA 92186, Fax: 619-534-5113; bourne@sdsc.edu; and Keith Watenpaugh, The Upjohn Co., 301 Henrietta, Kalamazoo, MI 49001, Fax: 616-385-7522; kdwatenp@upj.com.

Neutron Scattering

The Neutron Scattering Satellite Meeting will be held Aug. 5-7, 1996, at the National Inst. of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, MD. It will cover advances in instrumentation and applications to crystallography, materials science, and molecular biology, including reflectometry, small angle scattering, and inelastic scattering. Local contact: S. Krueger, Reactor Radiation Div., NIST, Gaithersburg, MD 20899, Fax: 301-921-9847; Krueger@enh.nist.gov. Chair: John White, Research School of Chem., Australian National U., Canberra, ACT 0200, Australia. Fax: 61-6-249-4903; jww@rschp1.anu.edu.au.

5th Annual Summer Course for Crystallography

5th Annual Summer Course for Crystallography July 28-Aug. 7, 1996, Pittsburgh, PA. The Course will emphasize the basics of crystallography and will be divided between lectures and laboratory sessions. It will involve primarily the determination of small-molecule structures with samples brought by participants. There will be several lectures on protein crystal growth and the phase problem in macromolecular structures. Air-conditioned dormitory accommodations will be available. For application forms and further information contact Prof. Bryan Craven, Dept. of Crystallography, U. of Pittsburgh, PA 15260. Fax: 412-624-1882, craven@vms.cis.pitt.edu
