Date: 30 May - 3 June 2016

The IUCr-UNESCO OpenLab Albania is aiming to be the first OpenLab for South-East Europe and the Balkan region. It follows the success of the events organized in Albania during the International Year of Crystallography 2014, namely the International Conference "New Frontiers of Nanomaterial Technologies for Applications in Biology and Medicine" and the "1st Workshop on Crystallography", which was held in conjunction with the XX Congress of the Carpathian-Balkan Geological Association.

The OpenLab is jointly organized by the Polytechnic University of Tirana, the International Union of Crystallography, UNESCO, the European Crystallographic Association and Bruker, with the support of the Department of Chemical Sciences and Materials Technology of the Italian National Research Council.

The OpenLab will make use of a portable Bruker-AXS SMART X2S single-crystal diffractometer.

Bring your own laptops and your own crystals!

Different software and applets will be used at the OpenLab to help participants familiarize with the concepts of symmetry and diffraction.
And if you have grown any crystals as part of your research project, bring them to the OpenLab to have your diffraction data collected with the Bruker AXS SMART X2S diffractometer and tutors will help you solve and refine your crystal structure!

Registration

Participation in the IUCr-UNESCO OpenLab Albania is free of charge. However, registration is requested through this online form.
Attendees from abroad or from outside Tirana can apply for a travel grant to cover, at least partially, their travel and accommodation expenses.
