Thank you for downloading this release of OpenMMS. OpenMMS is a toolkit for creating efficient representations of macromolecular structure data in several common formats. The OpenMMS Toolkit contains software for translating protein and nucleic acid macromolecular structure data stored in the mmCIF format into CORBA, XML and SQL-relational-database expressions. This translation is driven by a central metamodel based on the ontology contained in the mmCIF dictionary. All of the software for the metamodel and for generating the translated expressions is written in Java and is included with this distribution.
All portions of the OpenMMS Toolkit are released under the UCSD Copyright.
For the top-level documents describing OpenMMS refer to:
- A introduction to the general design and concepts in the OpenMMS Toolkit may be obtained from the paper presented at the Objects in Bio and Chem-informatics 2001 Conference on "An Ontology Driven Architecture".
- An introduction to the entire OpenMMS Toolkit contained in this distribution is available in The OpenMMS Overview. This overview includes a description of the runtime and development environment, a summary of the OpenMMS directory structure and pointers to addtional documentation.
- The Documentation Index contains the complete list of all the OpenMMS documentation available including the introductory papers, administrator guides, developer guides and API specifications for the OpenMMS Toolkit.
- The OpenMMS API Specification provides brief descriptions of the Java packages included with this distribution as well as the class and interface specifications.
