John D. Westbrook (1957–2021)

We regret to announce the death of John Westbrook, Data & Software Architect Lead at Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics Protein Data Bank (RCSB PDB), Piscataway, NJ, USA.

In addition to being an essential member of the PDB team, John was a long-standing member of the IUCr Committee for the Maintenance of the CIF Standard (COMCIFS) and of the IUCr Committee on Data and its precursor, the Diffraction Data Deposition Working Group. He also served in the past as a Co-editor of Acta Crystallographica Section F (2004–2020), and on the Commission on Crystallographic Computing (1999–2002).
