David G. Watson (1934–2023)

We are sad to report the death of Dr David G. Watson, who worked alongside Dr Olga Kennard in establishing the Cambridge Structural Database in 1965. Read the CCDC's obituary here.

Dr Watson, along with Professor Bill Clegg, was a founding Section Editor of Acta Cryst. E: Structure Reports Online, the IUCr's first purely electronic journal, which was launched in 2001. He also served, in an ex officio capacity, on the IUCr Commissions on Crystallographic Computing (1972–1981), Crystallographic Data (1972–1981), Crystallographic Nomenclature (2000–2008) and Structure Reports (1972–1981).
