The IUCr Secretariat is the Union’s permanent professional office. Based in Chester, UK, it supports the IUCr’s elected leadership and delivers the Union’s scientific, publishing, governance and community activities.
The Secretariat does not govern the IUCr. It implements decisions made by the General Assembly and Executive Committee and manages the Union’s day-to-day operations.

Led by the Chief Executive Officer, the Secretariat provides the administrative and professional support needed to operate an international scientific union. Its work includes:
