Commission on XAFS

The Commission on XAFS was established at the Seattle General Assembly in 1996.

In the following by XAFS is meant the fine structure associated with the inner shell excitation (both near edge and extended) by various probes (e.g., absorption or scattering of X-ray, electrons), and related techniques for which the data is interpreted on the same physical basis.

Definition of an Active Member of the IUCr Commission on XAFS (CXAFS)

An individual shall be considered an active member of the IUCr Commission on XAFS (CXAFS) if they
satisfy two or more of the following criteria:

  1. Participation in Commission Meetings
    Attends a minimum of 50% of the meetings convened by the Chair of the Commission.
  2. Engagement in Commission Activities
    Makes substantive contributions to the scientific or organizational work of the Commission. An example is the work done towards supporting the organisation of IUCr Congress sessions and XAFS-related workshops, by proposing candidates for keynote and invited speakers, recommending topics for microsymposia (MS), etc. 
  3. Fulfilment of Assigned Portfolio Responsibilities
    Effectively executes the duties and responsibilities associated with any portfolio or role assigned within the Commission.
