Early international contacts

Informal international contacts were established almost immediately after the beginnings of X-ray structure analysis, through personal correspondence and visits to foreign laboratories, and although many of these contacts were suspended during World War I, they were not permanently disrupted.

In 1987 it was announced that the first Ewald Prize had been awarded to Professor J.M. Cowley (Tempe, Arizona, USA) and Dr A.F. Moodie (Clayton, Victoria, Australia) for their outstanding achievements in electron diffraction and microscopy.
