Getting to Kyoto Station

From Kansai-Osaka International Airport (KIX) | (link 2)

(Itami Airport (ITM) was formally known as Osaka International Airport. Kansai-Osaka International Airport (KIX) should not be confused with Osaka International Airport (Itami / ITA). Osaka International Airport is closer to the city and now handles only domestic flights.)

By train
Take JR "Airport Express Haruka", and you can get to Kyoto without changing trains (http://www.westjr.co.jp/english/travel/kix/index.html). Make sure you take the train at "JR" station, since there is another station for "Nankai Railways" next to JR. Besides, make sure you take "Airport Express Haruka", NOT "Rapid service". Rapid train is bound for Osaka, and you cannot reach Kyoto. It will be a 75-minutes trip to Kyoto.

Ticket fare is 2,980 JPY (1833 JPY: based + 1150 JPY:express) without a reserved seat.

Ticket fare is 3690 JPY (1830 basic + 1150 express + 710 seat) for a reserved seat.

You can buy ticket in 2 ways; one is using the automatic ticket vending machine, another is JR ticket office called Midori-no-madoguchi (http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/ticket/purchase.html).

By bus
Limousine Bus service is available to reach Kyoto station (http://www.okkbus.co.jp/eng/index.html). The bus stop is located outside the International Arrivals Floor (1st floor) (http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/en/access/bus/index.html). Tickets can be purchased from ticket vending machines close to the bus stop. It will be a two-hour trip to Kyoto station. Get off the bus at the stop "Kyoto Station Hachijoguchi". You can find the entrance to the subway station close to the bus stop.
Ticket fare: 2,300 JPY


From Osaka International Airport (Itami / ITA)

By bus
Take "Osaka Airport Limousine" to reach Kyoto Station (http://www.okkbus.co.jp/eng/index.html). There are South and North terminal in Osaka international airport, and the Limousine bus stops at both of the two terminals. You can buy a ticket from vending machines close to the bus stops. It will be a one-hour trip to Kyoto station. Get off the bus at the stop "Kyoto Station Hachijoguchi". The entrance to the subway station is close to the bus stop.
Ticket fare: 1,280 JPY


From JP Kyoto Station to Kansai seminar house

Take subway Karasuma-line bound for Kokusaikaikan, and get off at Matsugasaki station (http://www.city.kyoto.jp/koho/eng/access/subway.html). It takes about 16 minutes from Kyoto station to Matsugasaki station.

Ticket fare is 280 JPY. You can buy ticket using the automatic ticket vending machine.

We plan to operate shuttle bus services between Matsugasaki station and Kansai Seminar House. Departure time will be announced later.

If you go by taxi, it is better to get off the subway at Kitayama Station (one stop before Matsugasaki).

Of course, you can walk from the subway station to Kansai Seminar House, but it will take more than 30 minutes.


Shuttle to and from the Kansai Seminar House (Sunday 17th, Monday 18th, Saturday 23rd August 2008.)

A Kansai Seminar House shuttle bus will pick people up from Matsugasaki station - Syugakuin station to Kansai Senminar House (One trip takes 40 minute).

It does not have a regular time-table and it dependents on who many people come. Normally, it works for 5 to 25 guests. Following is a tentative time table that will be adjusted after the registration deadline:

Depart from Matsugasaki station (Matsugasaki station - Syugakuin station - Kansai Seminar House), You should go out from No2 exit. Then waiting for shuttle bus.

Depart from Kansai Senminar House - Syugakuin station - Matsugasaki station
23rd August 14:00, 15:00, 16:00

From Kansai Seminar House to Grand Cube Osaka (the site of IUCr 2008 Congress)

Grand Cube Osaka (http://www.gco.co.jp/english/english.html) is located downtown Osaka and next to Rihga Royal Hotel Osaka (http://www.rihga.com/osaka/index.html). We ask participants to go to Osaka by subway and JR local line, and to take shuttle bus to Rihga Royal Hotel at JR Osaka station.

From Kansai Seminar House to Matsugasaki station: We plan to operate shuttle bus services to Matsugasaki station. If you leave earlier, take a taxi and go to the subway station. From Matsugasaki to JR Kyoto station: Take subway Karasuma-line bound for Takeda, and get off at Kyoto station. From Kyoto to Osaka: Go to track #4 or #5 and take JR "Kyoto-line" to Osaka. You have several choices for JR Kyoto-line, and it is better to take Special Rapid Service "Shinkaisoku" since it’s faster. Ticket can be purchased at JR Ticket Office or from automatic vending machines. From Osaka station to Grand Cube Osaka: Shuttle bus leaves to Rihga Royal Hotel every 6 minutes. The bus stop is located opposite of Osaka Central Post Office (http://www.rihga.com/osaka/map_jr_osaka.html). Grand Cube Osaka is next to the hotel.
