The first paper to be published was a powder diffraction study for the identification of bauxites by M. Karšulin, A.Tomič and A. Lahodny and dates from 1949. But the introduction of single-crystal methods and of Beevers-Lipson strips is due to D. Grdenić (1950) who received his training with A. I. Kitaigorodskii at the Institute for Organic Chemistry in Moscow.
