The Third International Conference on Small Angle Neutron Scattering is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Yu. M. Ostanevich (1936â€"1992), an outstanding neutron physicist and the founder of small-angle neutron scattering (field, group, and instrument).

The 13th International Conference on Quasicrystals (ICQ13) will be held on 18-23 September 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal. This is one of the series following the 1st workshop in Les Houches, France, the 2nd in Beijing, China, the 3rd Meeting in Vista-Hermosa, Mexico, the 4th Conference in St. Louis, USA, the 5th in Avignon, France, the 6th in Tokyo, Japan, the 7th in Stuttgart, Germany, the 8th in Bangalore, India, the 9th in Ames, USA, the 10th in Zürich, Switzerland, the 11th in Sapporo, Japan, the 12th in Cracow, Poland.

The ICQ13 offers an opportunity for researchers working on quasicrystals and related topics to exchange ideas and encourage collaborations with other research groups, hence promoting material science and engineering. It brings all the best scientists in the world to talk about the recent developments in the field. Abstracts are invited in all areas of research including (but not limited to) the following topics:

• Formation, growth and phase stability
• Structure and modeling
• Mathematics of quasiperiodic and aperiodic structures
• Physical properties: transport, magnetic, dynamical, mechanical etc.
• Surfaces and overlayers
• Applications and New Frontiers
• Metamaterials: polymer, macro molecules, photonic/phononic crystals, oxide etc.
• Related topics: incommensurate/modulated structures, metallic glass, complex metallic alloys, clathrate compound, clusters etc.

The 7th International Conference Photosynthesis Research for Sustainability is in Puschino in the Russian Federation. Of particular interest to this list is that we have a session on neutron scattering applied to photosynthesis research.

Molecular Materials: Frontiers in Functional Design

Interactions Between Organic and Inorganic Materials Across Time and Length Scales

Diffraction of radiation is used to determine the atomic structure of materials. The technique developed more than 100 years ago, using single crystals, which are hard to get or to make.

Exactly 100 years ago, Peter Debye alleviated this limitation with the invention of powder diffraction, making sample preparation a piece of cake.

Then 50 years later, Hugo Rietveld introduced a data analysis method that enabled accurate determination of the 3D crystal structure from the obtained powder data.

These two major steps forward make powder diffraction a standard tool in academia and industry today.

We want to celebrate the centennial + golden jubilee with you on 22 September 2016.
