In Bayreuth
SMARTER is dedicated to advancing the integration of spectroscopic techniques like solid-state NMR spectroscopy, scattering methods, and computational modelling to tackle the challenges of ab initio structure elucidation and the derivation of structureâ€"property relationships in complex materials. These include inorganic frameworks, organic solids, hybrid systems, energy materials and biomaterials, often exhibiting disorder, confinement, or low crystallinity. The conference series was founded to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological cross-fertilisation.
SMARTER 9 will continue this tradition by featuring invited speakers who represent a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical approaches. Key topics include:
- advanced strategies for structure elucidation from powdered samples and disordered materials
- synergistic use of spectroscopic and diffraction data with computational modelling
- integration of machine learning for analysis and AI-assisted interpretation
- treating dynamic and heterogeneous systems using in situ and operando techniques
- linking atomic-scale insights to macroscopic material properties
