Eighth in the series, the American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS 2016) will provide essential information on the breadth and depth of current neutron-related research worldwide. COSPAR, the International Union of Crystallography and the International Astronomical Union are proud to announce the first International School/Workshop on Crystallography for Space Sciences.

The aim of the School/Workshop is to prepare a selected number of participants for the next generation of projects in search of a deeper knowledge and understanding of extraterrestrial minerals and rocks, either large solid bodies or interstellar dust particles, using in-situ and remote analytical techniques.

The workshop is intended to instruct about 30 PhD students, postdocs and young staff members in modern crystallographic techniques in the fields of diffraction, imaging, spectroscopy and remote sensing. They will also learn the formation of mineral growth patterns in the early Earth, our Moon, Mars and other planets and moons, meteorites and interstellar dust, as well as relevance of crystals with origin of life and detection of primitive life forms. During the workshop, the students will analyze and discuss data from the mission Discovery and Curiosity as well as the forthcoming Exomars mission. Portable difractometers and spectrophotometers designed for these missions will be used during field trips for remote analysis of volcanic rocks.

The International Biology and Synchrotron Radiation (BSR) meetings are held every three years with the aim of presenting and discussing state of the art applications in relevant research fields. They have a long-standing record since the first meeting in Frascati, Italy in 1986. Subsequent meetings were held at sites at or near the most advanced light source facilities around the world, with the last BSR meeting taking place in Hamburg, Germany in 2013.

BSR is a unique forum to discuss the novel possibilities of synchrotrons and X-ray lasers and to promote their applications to challenging biological problems.

This meeting provides a forum for scientists involved in research and development on synchrotron and free electron laser sources to come together with a broad community of biologists, with the ambition to make the best use of the most advanced infrastructures in structural biology. Possible applications range from atomic-resolution and time-resolved structures of biological macromolecules, medium resolution images of the largest molecular complexes in the living word, and cellular and sub-cellular structures.

Scientists at all possible career levels are invited to this meeting â€" ranging from graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators both from academia and industry. There will be ample opportunities for individual presentations.

Featuring five parallel workshops representing a wide range of research interests, the Diamond Synchrotron Radiation User Meeting offers opportunities to hear about the latest in synchrotron research and technique developments, along with the chance to network with colleagues from Diamond and the synchrotron user community.

The Borate Conference is a forum for the discussion of current scientific research on borate materials (with a chemical composition that includes B₂O₃). The Borate Conference will be held on 24-26 July 2017. The 9th Borate Conference will be held in honour of Professor Steve Feller of Coe College, Iowa, USA, in recognition of his unique contribution to the study of borate materials.

The Phosphate Conference is a forum for the discussion of current scientific research on phosphate glasses (with a chemical composition that includes P₂O₅). The Phosphate Conference will be held on 26-28 July 2017.

Self-Assembly and Active Matter

Zeolites and related nanoporous materials are the backbone of existing large-scale applications in key sectors of the chemical industry. Advances in synthesis and applications of zeolites continue to be made at a rapid pace. At the same time, emerging materials such as metal-organic frameworks have opened broad possibilities in terms of novel materials properties and performance. This conference will bring together a cross-section of participants from the active world-wide communities working on zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and other nanoporous materials. By incorporating experts in materials synthesis, computational modeling, and industrial applications, the conference will create an excellent forum for advancing the state of the art for these important materials.

The Gordon Conference on Dynamics at Surfaces is a meeting held every two years attended by leading experimental and theoretical researchers studying the behavior of molecules interacting with liquid and solid surfaces, as well as phenomena at the liquid-solid interface. Examples of featured topics include: energy conversion processes at interfaces; dynamics of heterogeneous catalysis; dynamics at polymer, membranes and biological interfaces; growth and self-assembly at surfaces; computational approaches to dynamics at surfaces, ultrafast electron dynamics at interfaces, state-to-state scattering, chemical reaction dynamics, non-adiabatic effects in reactive and inelastic scattering of molecules from surfaces, single molecule dynamics at surfaces, surface photochemistry, and dynamics at soft (e.g. water) interfaces. The conference brings together investigators from a variety of scientific disciplines including chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, biophysics, and astronomy. The conference will be preceded by a Gordon Research Seminar for young researchers (graduate students and post-docs).
