The School aims to provide a current snapshot of the evolving field of 3D CryoEM image analysis, complete with workshops demonstrating state-of-the art software.

The School will address key advances in magnetic-structure research, as well as the foundational and state-of-the-art of theoretical, experimental, and computational capabilities that made these advances possible. The program, which includes both lectures and many hands-on-tutorials, is designed to engage both new and veteran members of the magnetic-structure community.

It is our pleasure to announce the first workshop on Advanced Diffraction Techniques for Biology in the EPN campus at Grenoble, France. The course will cover X-ray, neutron and electron diffraction by crystals of biological macromolecules. Various techniques will be investigated.

The school comprises theoretical and in-depth tutorial training on state-of-the-art methods in macromolecular crystallography.

• Crystallographic computation workshop: will feature many modern crystallographic software packages taught by the authors and other experts.

The daily schedule will be organized into three sessions â€" lectures, tutorials, and hands-on activities, with interactive troubleshooting of the technical difficulties the participants face in their projects.

Applicants: Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and young
scientists at the assistant professor level, are encouraged to apply. Only
25 applicants will be selected for participation. Participants of the
workshop are strongly encouraged to bring their own problem datasets so the
problems can be addressed during the hands-on/discussion sessions.

The registration for application is free. Few scholarships to cover travel
expenses for students from Brazil and Latin America will be available.
Accommodation expenses will be covered to all participants. More

The sixth edition of the "Crystallography and Large Equipment" school will take place at the SOLEIL synchrotron on 15th-19th October 2018, and will focus on the the possibilities offered by different crystallographic methods.

• Funds from ECA will be attributed to European applicants who must be or become ECA members. Grant receivers will be asked to write a short report about their participation.
• Fund from AFC and SFMC are reserved to French applicants.
• IUCr funds and funds from registration fees will be used to approach as much as possible a country and gender balance.
• All other funds that may be obtained will be used according to the rules imposed by the funding agencies.
• Students are requested to submit a copy of their student card, as well as a recommandation letter by their supervisors, explaining how they will benefit from participation in the school
• A list of publication is mandatory for post-doctoral fellows, optional for students
• A short motivation letter is requested from all applicants

La réflectivité des rayons X ou des neutrons est une technique de caractérisation des surfaces, des couches minces, voire de dépôts multicouches, qui permet d'obtenir des informations sur les épaisseurs, les rugosités et les densités à proximité de la surface étudiée. L'école thématique proposée ici a pour objectif de former les participants aux principes théoriques de la réflectivité, à son utilisation, aux traitements des données ainsi qu'à leur exploitation au travers de cours et de travaux pratiques. Plusieurs cas d'études seront présentés afin de montrer aux participants toutes les potentialités de cette méthode d'analyse de surface.

Le 11ième Forum de Technologie des Hautes Pressions aura lieu cette année à Sète du 1er au 4 octobre 2018. Il est organisé par le réseau de technologie des Hautes Pressions et localement par le groupe STEP (groupe de Science et TEchnologie des hautes Pressions de Montpellier), sous la tutelle de la plateforme réseaux de la Mission pour l'interdisciplinarité du CNRS avec le concours du pôle formation du service mutualisé d'Île-de-France.

The event will be divided in two blocks. The first block will be a specialised Diffraction on Energy Materials School

This School will be based on selected lectures together with intensive hands-on sessions using advanced tools for diffraction data treatment either implemented in Rietveld refinement programs, such as FullProf, or available as independent refinement programs such as FAULTS (also included in the FullProf suite).

The second block will be a meeting concerned with Diffraction on Energy Materials. This meeting will be organized as a parallel event of the ILL-ESS User Meeting which will take place at the Congress Center WTC (Grenoble). The participants can share their ideas in the framework of the proposed programme.

A systematic overview of the application of neutrons and synchrotron radiation to the structural analysis of engineering materials will be provided. The focus of the practical training will be on synchrotron experiments. Neutron data analysis will also be practised. Therefore, the school consists of a two-day theoretical course in Lauenburg, followed by two days of experiments at GEMS/DESY in Hamburg. The fifth day of the school offers further talks and a final discussion. All relevant experimental methods will be covered.

The school will provide an introduction to neutron scattering techniques including lectures by leading experts, analysis tutorials and hand-on experiments conducted using the instruments at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

Graduate students, PhD students, post-doctoral and early-career researchers who want to learn about neutron scattering and imaging are encouraged to apply.

The primary objective of the school is to give a hands-on training to participants on PDF data acquisition, reduction, and analysis covering all required steps from measurement to the final model. Data acquisition training will be conducted at the newly constructed PDF and XPD beamlines at NSLS-II. All participants are expected to being their own laptop computers for data analysis; the latest python based software package, xPDFsuite, will be used for data processing and modelling.

Registration fee: $225 - this will cover the cost of the xPDFsuite software and meals. A limited number of rooms in BNL dormitories are available for a discounted price.

The IFF Spring School 2019 will provide a solid introduction into scattering methods for the investigation of condensed matter and biomaterials. Topics will include modern scattering techniques and the advanced methods utilised at large scale facilities.

Participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and physics and/or chemistry of condensed matter. All lectures will be held in English.

Financial support is available for students who have yet to finish their Master's degree, to cover part of accommodation costs.

This school, supported by NNSP and SwedNess, is aimed as an introduction for early career researchers to a range of topics concerning neutron scattering.

The topics to be covered will include the principles of scattering and neutron instrumentation, diffraction, reflectivity and the multiple types of scattering techniques.Â

In addition there will be lectures which will highlight the use of neutrons in industrial and various scientific research fields, including at the ESS.

Nordic/Baltic participants will not be charged for attendance to the school or accommodation, and transportation costs will be reimbursed. Participants with affiliation outside of the Nordic and Baltic region will have to cover transport and accommodation costs. Â

Aimed at students outside the Physical Sciences, there is a introductory course on the mathematics and physics tool required for the school - this will be held on 8th and 9th September.

This five-day intensive course will act as an introduction to neutron scattering aimed at postgraduate students and early-career researchers, and will focus on fundamental scattering theory and hands-on data analysis. The techniques to be covered include diffraction, small angle scattering, quasielastic neutron scattering, and inelastic neutron scattering. The conference will be held at the new China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), about 60 miles north of Hong-Kong, which produced its first neutrons in 2017.Â

The registration fee for the course is $3000 HKD ($400 USD), which will include food and accommodation costs. Travel expenses will not be covered.Â

Powder diffraction: Theory, Software and Applications

The aim of the 2018 edition of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) International Crystallography School (AICS2018) is to give an overview on the characterization of polycrystalline materials through X-ray Powder Diffraction. The topics of the school span from the fundamental principles of powder diffraction to advanced methods of data collection and analysis with examples of applications of scientific and industrial interests. For each topic, theory will be strictly followed by practical sessions centred on the relevant software so that participants familiarise with some widely used computer programs for data analysis and interpretation of the results.
