The workshop will cover the structure solution process, consisting of lectures, tutorials and problem solving sessions. Lectures include Garib Murshudov on refinement, Phil Evans on scaling using aimless and James Parkhurst from the DIALS team. The deadline for application is the 10th of December.

In the workshop we will deal with various aspects of modern approaches to processing macromolecular diffraction data. Automated decision-making in the process will be discussed as well as pathologies in diffraction data.

Registration is free of charge but participation is limited to 50. Acceptance will be on first-come first-serve bases.

ray free electron laser (XFEL) is a new type of X-ray source with two distinct features that have never been possible in the past: extreme brilliance and femtosecond (fs) time resolution. It is billions of times brighter than the latest synchrotron source, which is in turn a billion times brighter than the sun. The XFEL pulses on femtosecond time scale, like a fast shutter that can catch femtosecond or slower events. The brilliance and laser coherence enable researchers to image biological molecules that cannot be grown into large crystals, as well as room-temperature living systems, and with a potential to image single molecules in the near future. The femtosecond pulses allow investigators to monitor molecular changes on the time scale of reaction intermediates - roughly 2 to 3 orders of magnitude better resolution than at a synchrotron. It also holds the potential of single molecule imagine at ambient temperature. Since the first XFEL beam became operational in 2009 in the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) near Stanford University, it has generated a significant impact on science (see the attached selected papers from Speakers). The speakers are the leaders in application of XFEL for biological and biomedical research.

L’objectif de cette école est de proposer une formation théorique et appliquée aux différentes méthodes et techniques utilisées pour répondre à des questions biologiques (diffraction et diffusion des rayons X, RMN biologique, cryo-microscopie, techniques d’imagerie cellulaire et moléculaire, méthodes biophysique d’études et de caractérisation des interactions macromoléculaires). Il s’agira ici d’expliciter à un public essentiellement constitué de doctorantes et doctorants ou de jeunes chercheuses ou chercheurs, les apports et les limites de chaque méthode et de montrer leur complémentarité et les développements à venir.
Cette formation est particulièrement adaptée aux doctorant(e)s en première ou deuxième année de thèse, mais elle ouverte à tous les personnels scientifiques souhaitant s'initier aux bases de la biologie structurale intégrative.

We invite you to join the 2016 Bristol BioSAXS workshop, which will run over two days on the 17th-18th November 2016 in the School of Biochemistry at Bristol University. The workshop will be led by Dr Robert Rambo, the Principal Beamline Scientist for B21, a dedicated solution state Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) beamline at Diamond Light Source, UK. This workshop is a great opportunity for those interested in using SAXS for biological structure elucidation in solution. No prior SAXS or synchrotron experience is required but the workshop will also be useful for more experienced users. Attendees will be invited to submit samples for measurement on the B21 beamline prior to the workshop. Day one will cover theoretical and practical aspects of SAXS measurement, with day two focusing on analysis of your own data from the B21 beamline using the ScAtter, a bioSAXS analysis application developed by Dr Rambo. Â

This Lecture Course, #16 in a series that started in 1987, will accommodate about 85 graduate students, postdocs and senior scientists during a 9-day summer school in Cargèse, a small village in Corsica.

Lectures, poster sessions and discussions will be be held from 9.00 h. till 12.30 h. and from 17.30 h. till 19.30 h. starting on June 12th , 2017. The course ends in the evening of Thursday June 22.

Active participation by all participants in all scientific activities has become a tradition. A detailed programme as well as a poster and lecture abstract book will be presented on the internet. The selection of graduate student and postdoc participants will be based on their poster abstract, list of publications and recommendation (if requested). Deadline for application is April 1, 2017.

A decision about participation will be made in April 2017 and more detailed information will be mailed to the selected participants in due time.
