2nd I2PC cryoEM Facilities Meeting

I2PC, as developers of Scipion, has as one of its top priorities the improvement of the functionality that Scipion offers to Cryo-EM Facilities. We will present Scipion and how it is used in several Facilities together with its development Road Map. More importantly, there will be ample time to discuss and present common Facility problems, and hopefully share with others how you are running your Facility.
CCP-EM Icknield Workshop for High Resolution Model Building and Refinement

We are proud to announce the 2018 Icknield Workshop kindly supported by
Instruct. This course is aimed at structural biologists with high-
resolution EM maps ready for / in the process of model building and
refinement. This four day course (1st-4th May) will host some of the
leading software developers and provide ample contact time to allow
delegates to discuss their data in detail alongside traditional lectures
and tutorials. It will cover all aspects of model building including: map
optimisation, docking, automated model building, medium resolution
refinement, high-resolution refinement, interactive refinement, validation
and deposition.
The course will be held at the RAL / Diamond Campus, Harwell, UK, site of
the eBIC national facility. Registration is free, thanks to generous
funding from Instruct, and we will provide food and three nights
accommodation at the Bear Hotel in nearby Wantage (nights of 1st, 2nd and
3rd May). Please note that during the application process you will be asked
if you would like to make an accommodation request - if you would like
accommodation provided for you free of charge please select yes and let us
know which nights you would like. If you do not want accommodation provided
for you please select no. Delegates are asked to meet their own travel
costs. Please see the agenda for full course times.
The course is limited to 20 delegates who will be selected from all
applicants. A maximum of 50 applicants can register interest.

Established as a consortium of Scottish Universities (Glasgow, Dundee, Edinburgh and St. Andrews), SCMI will provide access to top-flight cryoEM capabilities for structural biologists across Scotland and Northern England.
We will soon be taking delivery of our front-line instrument - a JEOL Cryo-ARM 300.
As we shall be among the first to take delivery of this new machine, we anticipate that the cryoEM community may be enthusiastic to learn about its design and capabilities.
To celebrate the launch of SCMI, we are planning to hold a symposium and opening event on the 10th and 11th of September.

The 2018 Kuo Symposium/Workshop on 3DEM of Cells and Molecules, which will be held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Major topics of the Symposium include recent developments in cryoEM sample preparation and data acquisition, advances in cryoEM image analysis and reconstruction, advances in cryoET and in situ structural biology, and correlative and hybrid methods for cellular structural analysis.
The cryoEM meeting and workshop series is named after K.H. Kuo (1923-2006), a prominent Chinese scientist, who is among the pioneers discovered several types of quasicrystals in 1980s. Dr. Kuo was also an important educator and mentor who had fostered a generation of electron microscopists in China, Asia and across the world. Since 2008, the Kuo summer school of electron microscopy has provided numerous opportunities for a new generation of scientists to learn the technique of cryoEM through close interactions with many leading scientists in the field during workshop and symposium.

Deep Learning for CryoEM. A day workshop

A workshop on the applications of deep learning to problems of interest to cryoEM. These may include particle picking, selection of appropriate 2D classes, decisions on the numbers of 3D maps, segmentation of tomograms, etc.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together machine learning experts and cryoEM practitioners to discuss the use of deep learning methods to applications in cryoEM.

The workshop is dedicated to Integrative Structural Biology
The main objective of this workshop is to offer a theoretical and practical training in the different techniques used in integrative structural biology (X-ray diffraction, small-angle X-ray scattering, NMR, cryo-electron microscopy, sample preparation for structural biology, biophysical methods to study and characterize macromolecular interactions). The goals are to explain and illustrate, to an audience mainly composed of doctoral students and young researchers, the contributions and limitations of each method with a strong emphasis on their complementarity and future developments.
The official language of the workshop is French but presentations may be given in English, depending on the overall profile of the students. For practicals, English and French speaking groups may be organised.

Processing through 2D, ab initio 3D, heterogeneity analysis, to high resolution refinement will be introduced by each participant independently working through all stages.

The course will focus on structural biology using Transmission Electron Microscopy and aims to teach the participants the basic principles and practical aspects of specimen preparation, Image processing and 3D reconstruction in Single Particle Cryo Electron Microscopy (SPCryoEM) and Cellular Tomography. This is a hands-on course, in which theory and practicals are tightly intertwined. There will be practical session to teach sample preparation for Single particle â€"ve stain and cryoEM. The topics covered will suit both the new entrants to the field as well as those who wants to acquire an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles and practical aspects.
Applications are invited from PhD students, Post Docs and Researchers (Faculties/PI’s and protein crystallographers) who wish to acquire knowledge in SPCryoEM and Cellular Tomography. Applicants from all over the world are encouraged to apply.
The basic format of the course will be theoretical lectures in the mornings followed by hands on practical session on specimen preparation and image processing on computer workstations in the afternoon. Evenings will be reserved for poster presentations by the participants and research talks by the participants/instructors.
