The Stanford-SLAC cryoEM Center (S2C2 - https://cryoem.slac.stanford.edu/s2c2/) is sponsoring a single particle cryoEM image processing workshop at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (Menlo Park, CA), from March 11 to March 13 2019. The first part of the course will cover theoretical aspects of image processing (Electron scattering, Fourier transform, CTF, etc.), held by our invited speaker David DeRosier (Brandeis University). This will be followed by a hands-on workshop on Relion 3, held by Cornelius Gati (SLAC/Stanford University), covering all aspects from raw images, motion correction, CTF estimation, classification to final reconstructions. The third day of the course will cover Map validation and modeling (Greg Pintilie and Wah Chiu Stanford/SLAC) and further talks by advanced users with useful tips for how to tackle your image processing problems. The course is aimed at beginners in single particle cryoEM image analysis and will be going through a relion tutorial, while participants are encouraged to prepare questions regarding their own datasets (time permitted). Attendance in person is preferable, although a Zoom link for remote participants will be provided as well. Applicants will be selected based on a short description of their scientific background and motivation letter. The course will be free of charge, while accommodation will have be covered by the participants.Â

Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography 4 Structural Biology

HTCC4 will entirely be dedicated to structural biology. Over four intense working days, we shall cover techniques which go beyond classical crystallography, yet which complement it so smoothly: XFEL â€" X-ray free electron laser, cryo electron microscopy NMR in macromolecular structural research biomolecular in silico simulations. The lecturers and tutors shall explain fundamentals of these methodologies, give examples on their practical applications, tutor the practical and interactive sessions, and moderate round table discussions on how to apply these methods to your own research. The examples of particular systems studied with the presented methods shall emphasize intertwist between the four chosen hot topics in contemporary research. The complementarity of each of the hot topics with classical crystallography shall be discussed.
The principal HTCC target audiences are, apparently, young(ish) crystallographers, electron microscopists, NMRists and researchers in in silico simulations dealing with biomacromolecular systems. Nonetheless, we count on researchers from the domains of (bio)chemistry, physics, biology and life sciences from both industry and academia, who appreciate and take advantage of the structural studies, want to spice up their research with an additional hint of interdisciplinarity, or, simply learn what’s new in the dynamic world of structural research.
6th RéNaFoBiS Oléron workshop

The main objective of this workshop is to offer a theoretical and practical training in the different techniques used in integrative structural biology (X-ray diffraction, small angle X-ray scattering, NMR, cryo-electron microscopy, sample preparation for structural biology, biophysical methods to study and characterize macromolecular interactions). The goals are to explain and illustrate, to an audience mainly composed of doctoral students and young researchers, the contributions and limitations of each method with a strong emphasis on their complementarity and future developments.

The HRTEM Winter School at ASU has a long history in educating and training TEM scientists, and we have been expanding our interests and courses to the biological applications, especially the cryo-EM methods.
The goal of the Cryo-EM Workshop is to introduce the concepts and applications of the biological cryo-EM. We will have four guest speakers coming to join our workshop: Dr. James Evans (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), Dr. Tim Grant (HHMI Janelia Farms), Dr. Axel Brilot (UCSF), and Dr. Thomas Tomasaik (University of Arizona). Participants will learn the complete workflow and advanced techniques used for biological cryo-EM through lectures, demos, and hands-on experiments. No previous experience is required. Also, it will be a great opportunity for the participants to learn the cryo-EM principles while working along with their samples. Therefore, we are welcoming to receive the proposals from who areinterested in bringing their samples and processing their data on site.
