We are very glad to announce the Summer of Crystallography which will take place in the beautiful small town and famous tourist resort of Bol, on the island of Brač, Croatia, in the Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa (4*), from September 21st to October 2nd, 2016. This project includes two international crystallographic meetings, to be held one just after the other.

The event starts with the 24th Croatian-Slovenian Crystallographic Meeting (CSCM24), from September 21st to September 25th, 2016, which is jointly organized by the Croatian Crystallographic Association and the Slovenian Crystallographic Society, under the auspices of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. All the necessary information on the venue, scientific programme, plenary lecturers, abstract submission, registration procedure, social programme, deadlines, accommodation arrangement, arrival to Bol, can be found at the conference web site. All contributions will be presented orally. An interesting half-day excursion to the interior of the island of Brač will be organized for all participants and accompanying persons. It should be mentioned that there is no registration fee for this Meeting.

Since 1992, every year crystallographers from different countries attend the annual Croatian-Slovenian / Slovenian-Croatian Crystallographic Meetings, alternatively in Croatia and Slovenia, to present their work and exchange ideas in multiple areas of research involving crystallography. Most of the participants of the previous meetings have expressed their opinion that these meetings have been very successful in all aspects, scientifically and socially, offering a friendly and domestic atmosphere.

CSCM24 is followed by the 3rd European Crystallography School (ECS3), from September 25th to October 2nd, 2016. The ECS3 is organized by the Croatian Association of Crystallographers and the European Crystallographic Association. After the 29th European Crystallographic Meeting, Rovinj 2015, Croatian crystallographers are very much looking forward to hosting once again colleagues from across the globe.

Polish Crystallographic Meeting (Konwersatorium Krystalograficzne) is an annual scientific conference being a forum for exchange of views of all Polish physicists and chemists engaged instructural research and related fields. It usually collects approx. 230 scientists from all academic centers in Poland: universities, institutes of Academy of Sciences, research and development centers, industrial laboratories. In the conference participate both leading Polish crystallographers, and a large group of young people: young scientists, PhD and undergraduate students. Conference is one of the oldest Polish recurring conferences. It was started in 1956 and since then, with short breaks, it is organized in Wroclaw. The organizers of the conference are: the Committee of Crystallography of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish Crystallographic Association and the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research in Wroclaw.

After the several successful Tunisian Crystallographic Meetings (TCM1, TCM2, TCM3 and TCM4) conferences held successively during March 2006 (Hammamet), June 2008 (Hammamet), April 2013 (Monastir) and November 2014 (Djerba), the Tunisian Cristallographic Association: TCA organizes the Fifth Tunisian Crystallographic Meeting to be held in the famous seaside resort of Yasmine Hammamet (HOTEL El MEHARI 5 *) during the period March 20-24, 2016.

The school will be held at the Centre for Free-Electron Laser Science at DESY

Prof. Carmelo Giacovazzo will give a full week of lectures on the basics
of crystallography and modern phasing methods in protein crystallography.
The course will cover mathematical understanding of crystallographic point
and space groups, systematic absences, diffraction experiments, structure
factor calculations, and other related topics. Besides the lectures, there
will be talks on applications of protein crystallography using advanced
light sources, such as 3rd generation synchrotron and X-ray Free Electron
Lasers (FELs). The course is aimed at PhD students working in the field of
crystallography, but exceptions can be made for motivated PostDocs and MSc
students. This will NOT be a workshop covering protein crystallographic
programs.

The course covers a multidisciplinary approach to study the structure of
challenging proteins, focusing on membrane proteins and large complexes.
The basic principles will be provided for each addressed technique
(Macromolecular Crystallography, Mass Spectrometry and Electron
Microscopy); their applications in biological systems, major benefits
and limitations will also be discussed.

The Workshop is organized with lectures in the mornings followed by
hands-on training. The course is aimed primarily at PhD students and
young Post-Doctoral researchers interested in Structural Biology.
Confirmed speakers are Jose Maria Carazo, Dmitri Svergun and Isabel de
Moraes.

 Participants will be limited to 20. Candidate selection will be based on
a short CV, a motivation letter from the applicant, and a recommendation
letter from the supervisor.
