3D solutions in Cryo-Electron Microscopy 2015

The aim of this workshop is to show, through lectures and practical courses, the solutions for 3D reconstruction in Cryo-Electron Microscopy.
Methodology
The lectures will cover single particle analysis, cryo-tomography of isolated specimens and cryo-tomography of structures inside a vitreous cryo-section or lamella and cryo-CLEM. The practical courses will show to the participants how to do sample preparation (high pressure freezing, plunge freezing, vitreous sectioning and cryo-fibbing), image acquisition in cryo-EM single-particle and cryo-tomography and 3D-reconstruction.
5th School on Representational Analysis and Magnetic Structures (RAMS)

The school is targeted towards researchers interested in applying representational analysis for solving magnetic structures with neutron diffraction. Â The school will cover representational analysis and the theory of magnetic structures. Â The program will include both lectures and labs working with software such as SaraH and FULLPROF. Â This year, we will also cover magnetic symmetry tools developed on the Bilbao crystallographic server. Â Invited lecturers include Andrew Wills (U. College, London), Â V. Ovidiu Garlea (ORNL), Â Clarina Dela Cruz (ORNL), Â and Juan Manuel Perez-Mato (Universidad del Pais Vasco). Â Â Â
The school will be hosted at the University of Maryland College Park campus and participants can stay on campus at discounted prices. Â The school will begin Monday morning, August 3rd, and end Thursday late afternoon, August 6th. Â Â

The workshop entitled “Molecular materials: from fundamentals to applications†will focus on various aspects of research into molecular materials ranging from fundamentals to applications. The following topics will be covered:
- Polymorphism in Molecular Materials â€" control, prediction, and implications for applications.
- Crystallisation of molecular materials under ambient and non-ambient conditions
- In situ studies of molecular crystals and molecular materials â€" diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, lattice dynamics
- Solid-state chemical reactions of molecular materials - mechanochemistry
In 2013 the British Council has launched a new five-year programme to encourage international research collaboration between ambitious young researchers from the UK and nineteen countries around the world. In 2014 the British Council in Russia is partnering with the Royal Society of Chemistry to organise and deliver a chemistry-themed jointly funded Researcher Links workshop which will provide opportunities for 40 early career researchers from the UK and Russia to interact, learn from each other and explore opportunities for building long-lasting research collaborations.
The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise and networking. During the workshops early career researchers will present their research in the form of a short oral (or poster) presentation and discuss this with established researchers from the UK and Russia. There will be a focus on building up links for future collaborations and participants will be selected on the basis of their research potential and ability to build longer term links.
The British Council and the Royal Society of Chemistry will jointly cover the costs related to participation in the workshop of UK and Russian researchers, including:

- UK researchers: travel (both international and local), accommodation, Russian business visas;
- Russian researchers: travel and accommodation.
Miscellaneous event costs will also be covered (including at least 2 meals per day).

EHPRG2014. 52nd European High Pressure Research Group Meeting

The Sixteenth International Conference on High Pressure in Semiconductor Physics (HPSP-16) is a satellite of the International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (ICPS 2014) to be held in Austin (USA) during the following week.
HPSP is a biennial meeting with a long standing tradition. The first two meetings took place in Poland (1985) and Montpellier (1986) as a Polishâ€"French Meeting on High Pressure Applications in Semiconductors. The success of these early conferences made it clear that the topic area of high-pressure semiconductor physics had wide interest. Consequently, in 1988 the series was convened under its present name and has been organized as a satellite meeting of the traditional International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (ICPS). Magnetic Diffraction from Single Crystals at the ESS

In FIAP Paris
The LLB is engaged by in-kind contribution in the design of neutron instrumentation at the European Spallation Source (ESS) Sweden, specifically for magnetic diffraction from single crystals . A strong potential is anticipated for single crystal diffraction by neutron time-of-flight Laue techniques benefiting best from the ESS pulse structure and providing new opportunities to study microscopic samples under extreme conditions, temperature, magnetic field and pressure.
The meeting is organized by the LLB and aims to evaluate the new perspectives for magnetic single crystal diffraction at the ESS. We intend to join neutron experts and potential users in the field to gather the most important scientific community needs.
The meeting (limited to 30 participants) will start at 11:00 on Monday May 26th and end at 17:00 on Tuesday May 27th. Organizers will provide lunches and coffee breaks.
Participants will have a possibility to present a 10-20 minutes talk. A considerable part of the time will be reserved for an informal discussion.

The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) Commission on High Pressure was establised in 1996 and a series of international workshops were held at the ESRF(97), APS(98), SPring-8(00), and in Orsay(01), Berkeley(03), Saskatoon(04), Dubna(06), Oxford(07), Harbin(09) and Gatlinburg(10). This year, to coincide with the opening of a high-pressure beamline at the spallation neutron source in J-PARC, the meeting will be held in Mito with a tour to J-PARC. It will be organized as a joint meeting of the Commission on High Pressure and the Quantum Beam Science Directorate, Japan Atomic Energy Agency.Scope

Purpose of the Course
As a thermodynamic parameter, pressure is remarkable in many ways. It spans in the visible universe over sixty orders of magnitude, from the non-equilibrium pressure of hydrogen in intergalactic space, to the kind of pressure encountered within neutron stars.Â
In the laboratory, it provides unique possibility to control structure and properties of materials, dramatically alter electronic properties, break existing, or form new chemical bonds by reaching compressions in excess of an order of magnitude for molecular materials.Â
This agenda naturally encompasses elements of physics (properties and structure), chemistry (chemical reactions, transport), materials science (new materials) and engineering (mechanical properties); in addition it has direct applications and implications for geology (minerals in their natural, deep earth environments), planetary sciences, biology and medicine (deep sea ecosystems, membranes, protein and nucleic acid folding, the role of high-pressure in the origin of prebiotic forms of matter and the origin of life, des-activation of viruses and toxins).Â
Beyond its specificity, high-pressure science finds direct or indirect (i.e. economic) application in several fields of modern European technology, such as mechanical engineering (strain/stress analysis), optoelectronics and spintronics, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical industry, food processing, petroleum industry, seismic data interpretation, etc.
