Bridging the Gap from Free Clusters to Functional Nanostructures
The fundamental properties of small particles, and their potential for groundbreaking applications, are among the most exciting areas of research in modern physics, chemistry, and biology. The 2015 Gordon Conference focuses on the intimate interplay between the properties of clusters over a wide size range and their translation into supported nanoparticles, so bridging the gap from free clusters to functional nanostructures.
The traditional interdisciplinary nature of this Conference will be preserved. Fundamental questions, such as cluster formation, geometric structure, electronic structure, magnetism, optical properties, chemical reactivity, and alloying in the gas phase will complement topics crucial to applications, such as cluster support interactions and functional behavior in catalysis, optical labeling, cluster assembled materials, nano-engineering, etc.

Theory meets experiment: molecular nanoscience and applications

This three-day workshop will bring together experimentalists and theorists studying atomic and molecular scales structures on surfaces. The central theme of the workshop is the investigation of molecules on surfaces, and key topics are expected to include:
- Individual atoms and molecules â€" and structures engineered from these â€" on metals, semiconductors, insulators, and 2D materials
- Manipulation of the electronic and magnetic states of individual atoms and molecules through interactions with surfaces
- Molecular self assembly and molecular surface functionalization
- Molecule-based devices
- Novel imaging techniques (including tunnelling and force microscopies), spectroscopies and time resolved measurements.
One of the central objectives of the meeting is to promote cross-boundary discussions, especially at the experiment/theory and fundamental/applied interfaces. Time will be allocated to facilitate such discussions, including poster sessions and a social event.

Epitaxy and Promises
Scope
Epitaxy allows nowadays the usual growth of nanostructures with unique properties. The control of their growth at the finest level is a challenge in achieving new systems. It involves both the understanding of the growth mechanisms together with the knowledge of the properties of materials at the nanoscale. It is a domain where both fundamental research and industrial issues are closely entangled.
This summer school is aimed at giving to Ph-D students, young but also senior scientists, an up-to-date overview on the epitaxy of semi-conductors. The basic growth mechanisms will be presented with an emphasis on the new developments in this understanding. The control of the growth using patterns, selective growth or new geometries such as nanomembranes, nanowires or sheets, will be reviewed. The properties of the epitaxial systems, already explored or expected, will be given both theoretically and experimentally with a description of the characterization techniques. The school will give the opportunity to review the most important achievements in practical applications of epitaxial nanostructures. A particular attention will be given to new trends and pioneering directions, as well as to new materials and devices.

Nanoscale Spintronics with Magnons, Phonons, and Photons
Spintronics is a leading contender for future nano-scale, "beyond Moore", data storage, processing, and transmission technologies. In particular, magnetism-based spintronics has enormous largely unexplored potential given its two particular features: (i) the extreme robustness of the magnetic order parameter against elevated temperatures and nanoscale confinement, and, (ii) the power-efficient spin-torque manipulation of the magnetic order by electric currents. As researchers are probing deeper into the spin dynamics of nanostructures, new physics and associated functionalities are being discovered at a dazzling pace. The 2nd Gordon Research Conference and 1st Gordon Research Seminar on "Spin Dynamics in Nanostructures" will provide an important stage for the main players in the field (and those who want to joint them) to present and discuss new results and future plans, in theory, computation, simulation, and experiments.
The conference will touch many issues of modern spintronics and magnetism that challenge conventional wisdom. Magnetism occurs in metals and insulators, in the form of ferro-, ferri- and antiferromagnetic ground states, all with specific dynamical properties. Elementary spin wave excitations (magnons) can be excited and controlled by external stimuli such as magnetic fields, heating, electric currents, light (photons) and sound (phonons). The magnetization field may contain topological defects such as domain walls, vortices, and skyrmions that are especially susceptible to perturbations. The spin-orbit interaction is an essential ingredient to access, excite and stabilize magnetic textures and their dynamics. As structures approach the nanometer scale, new challenges arise due to the increased role of internal interfaces and contacts to the outside world and novel emerging quantum effects. Moreover, studies on the femtosecond to picosecond time-scales provide insights into regimes which defy established wisdom.
We invite starting and expert researchers from academia and industry with backgrounds in experiment, theory, and computation of magnetism, optics, mechanics, electronics and thermoelectrics to participate in these meetings. The goal of these meetings is to exchange ideas and to discuss the most recent progress and most challenging problems. Of special welcome are junior scientists working on or interested in the field. At the preceding 1st Gordon Research Seminar in magnetism they will receive briefings from leading researchers as well as present and extensively discuss their work among themselves in order to maximally profit from the subsequent conference.

About the Workshop
We are proud to announce that the International Workshop on Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction and Exotic Spin Structures (DMI 2015) will take place in Pskov, Russia on May 26 â€" 29, 2015. The III International Workshop DMI 2015, hosted by the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI), follows two previous meetings held in Saint Petersburg (2011) and Veliky Novgorod (2013). DMI 2015 is intended for researchers working in the field of the structural and magnetic properties of noncentrosymmetric crystals and artificial nanostructures. The objective of the workshop is to serve as a platform for scientific discussion and exchange of ideas among the scientists willing to share their research findings as well as to review and discuss the recent progress, developments and advances in DMI and chiral magnetism.
Scientific scope
The workshop will include the application of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction (DMI) to the following areas:
- cubic ferromagnets without center of symmetry;
- antiferromagnets without center of symmetry;
- nanostructures at the surfaces and interfaces;
- weak ferromagnetism.

A workshop will be held at the University of Huddersfield to discuss the development and application of future Muon sources.
Organised with the support of the European Union 7th Framework Programme, this will be a joint meeting between the Accelerator Applications Network of EuCARD2 (http://eucard2.web.cern.ch) and the Muon Joint Research Activity within the Neutron and Muon Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (http://nmi3.eu).
The aim of the meeting is to bring together scientists and engineers involved in the development and application of accelerator-based muon sources to discuss and exchange ideas about the requirements for future facilities.
The meeting will consider new technologies required for the production of novel muon beams, such as Ultra Slow beams and the Muon Microscopes, while taking a forward look to new applications of muon techniques in academia and industry.
