We announce with a heavy heart that former IUCr President Henk Schenk, Professor Emeritus at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, died on 14 September 2023. Professor Schenk served on the IUCr Executive Committee [1993–2005 (President 1999–2002)], as Co-editor of Acta Cryst.
