The first workshop on Advanced Diffraction Techniques for Biology will take place at the EPN campus at Grenoble, France. The course will cover X-rays, neutrons and electrons diffraction by crystals of biological macromolecules. Various techniques will be investigated:

• Macromolecular crystal growth
• In situ (in plate) X-ray diffraction
• Serial X-ray crystallography
• Time-resolved X-ray crystallography
• Neutron diffraction
• Electron diffraction of nano-crystals

with the aim of solving /de novo/ structures, searching ligands, elucidating reaction mechanisms...

This 1-week course will combine theoretical lectures and practicals on ESRF beamlines and other EPN instruments. It is dedicated to researchers (advanced PhD, PostDoc, Scientist) interested in macromolecular structural studies at atomic resolution using crystallographic approaches.

The registration is free and includes accommodation and meals on the EPN campus. Selected applicants will be notified by e-mail on September 30, 2018. Participants will have to pay for their travel expenses.

The course is intended mainly for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the area of structural biology. In some cases, assistant -professor-level applicants can be accepted as well. The school is not meant as an introductory level course to protein crystallography. It is designed more for applicants with reasonable expertise in crystallography and experience with the CCP4 suite. The purpose of the school is to address specific problems that the applicants face while processing diffraction data and while solving and refining novel structures. Applicants with already collected data will be given strong consideration, although this not a mandatory requirement.

Note: for the tutorials and practicals there is a limit of 35 students, lectures are open to all.

Application to the workshop is free of charge, but a letter from the supervisor or the professor will be required.Travel expenses will be the responsibility of the participant, accommodation and meals will be provided. There accommodation at the CSIR guest house.

The daily schedule will be organized into three sessions â€" lectures, tutorials, and hands-on activities, with interactive troubleshooting of the technical difficulties the participants face in their projects.

Applicants: Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and young
scientists at the assistant professor level, are encouraged to apply. Only
25 applicants will be selected for participation. Participants of the
workshop are strongly encouraged to bring their own problem datasets so the
problems can be addressed during the hands-on/discussion sessions.

The registration for application is free. Few scholarships to cover travel
expenses for students from Brazil and Latin America will be available.
Accommodation expenses will be covered to all participants. More

This is the first meeting within the International Conference Series
“Virtual Human â€" Imaging Across Scales” co-organized by scientists from
Russia, Germany, China, and USA

Our speakers will focus on cutting-edge problems of modern integrative
structural biology of biomembranes and membrane proteins, theoretical
biophysics of membrane systems and computer modelling. The conference will
highlight the role of biomembranes in aging and age-related diseases such
as cancer, neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s) and cardiovascular
diseases.

The talks will be given by world-leading scientists from Russia, USA,
Germany, France, the Netherlands, China, Spain, Italy, Sweden and
Switzerland.

The annual lecture series is set up in the recognition of Fritiof Sjöstrand's contribution to the development of electron microscopy and will be delivered by eminent scientists in the field. The event is organised by SciLifeLab, Karolinska Institutet and the Journal of Structural Biology and open to anyone. A holder of the lectureship will particularly spend time with students and postdocs.

The advanced CryoNet workshop is aimed at students and postdocs who have obtained high-resolution cryo-EM maps and currently in the process of model building and refinement. Alongside lectures and tutorials, ample contact time will be provided to discuss practical issues in detail, therefore participants are expected to bring their own data. The software will be presented in the context of large and complex macromolecules with variable quality throughout the map. Special attention will be given to: sharpening, automation, nucleic acids, validation.

This workshop will take place as part of the American Crystallographic Association (ACA 2018) Meeting (20th-24th July 2018).

This single-day workshop will be comprised of carefully constructed lectures and tutorials to serve as an introduction to investigators new to the technique. Throughout the workshop, the emphasis will be on practical application. Students will also learn about aspects of data collection at home laboratories and at national user facilities.

Students are expected to bring laptops with the appropriate software pre-installed to the workshop. Â

The workshop is part of this year's users meeting (24-26 September 2018) at the MAX IV Laboratory.

MAX IV Laboratory recently received funding from the Novo Nordisk
Foundation for MicroMAX, a micro-focus macromolecular crystallography
beamline. This workshop will survey the present status of the field of
serial crystallography and give possibilities to discuss the present and
future developments. A motivating factor is to define the context and
scope of the MicroMAX beamline.
