The workshop is focused on areas important for all researchers and
specialists working in the field of structural biology or utilizing one or
more methods of structure analysis of biological macromolecules.
The skills and tools for combining experimental approaches and
computational tools in structural biology are in the center of this event.
Theoretical lectures will be complemented by user cases and practical
tutorials on laboratory equipment and in computational analysis.
PSDI2019. 27th Protein Structure Determination in Industry meeting

The meeting will be held at the Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, UK. Workshops will take place on Sunday the 3rd of November, followed by a welcome reception. Scientific sessions and exhibition will be held on Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th of November, with a conference dinner in central Cambridge on the 4th.
Scientific talks will cluster around the following major themes:
- structure and biophysics based drug design stories
- cryoEM in a pharmaceutical setting
- popular biophysics techniques, eg. HDX-MS
- popular drug discovery trends, eg. degraders
Workshops will include three consecutive sessions about biophysics, crystallography and cryoEM.

CCP4/BCA Protein Crystallography Summer School

The course aims to cover the theoretical and practical aspects of protein
crystallography from protein expression and purification, through crystal
growth to data collection on in-house and synchrotron sources, phasing
methods, automated model building and phase extension, refinement, and
validation. Hands-on sessions in data processing (XIA2, DIALS), molecular
replacement, MAD/SAD phasing, refinement and electron density map
interpretation (in COOT) will be included.
The School is intended for postgraduates or postdocs new to
crystallography. The week is very intensive, and gives a concentrated
overview of the methods which many find useful.
As in the past, priority is given to UK applicants because of the funding
arrangements, but is open to a limited number of overseas applicants.

Workshop on data collection and structure solving in macromolecular X-ray diffraction

CHESS Users' Meeting

NY. CHESS has just completed a major upgrade to its storage ring and beamlines;
the meeting will be a great place to find out about the new opportunities for
science created by CHESS-U, and see the new facilities.
There will be two workshops at the meeting; of particular interest to this
audience is one on Biomolecules Under Pressure. Speakers will introduce
high-pressure bioscience as it relates to molecular biophysics, the evolution of
life, food science and the instrumentation required to perform high-pressure
biological experiments, primarily using crystallography and SAXS. The workshop
will include a short overview of data acquisition at the CHESS BioSAXS station.
EMBO practical course on Image Processing for cryo EM

The aim of the course is to teach the basic principles and practical aspects of image processing to structural and molecular biologists wishing to determine macromolecular structures by cryo EM. The course will concentrate on processing of high-resolution image data, for both single particle images and tomograms, and will be aimed at advanced PhD students and postdocs using cryo EM for structural analysis.

Engineering recombinant proteins for structural and functional studies

The programme will address the limiting step in structural studies - the production of
pure and homogenous proteins. Talks and discussions at this event will explore strategies
to optimize membrane and soluble proteins for crystallization, cryo-EM and NMR studies.
Discussions will include construct optimization, novel thermostability assays,
crystallization tools and `tricks of the trade' to enable structure determination.
This event is particlarly directed toward early-stage graduate students in structural biology.
However, anyone interested in generating soluble proteins for a variety of applications,
such as enzymatic assays and antibody production, would be welcome to attend.
Manufacturers of instruments and techniques to assay purity and homogeneity
will be available for hands-on demonstrations.

This immersive course is an outstanding place to learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of Macromolecular Crystallography because of the extensive lectures from world-renowned teachers, which are combined with hands-on experiments. This 2019 course will be lead by Jim Pflugrath (Rigaku, ret.), Tassos Perrakis (NKI), Paul Adams (LBL), Janet Newman (CSIRO) and an All-Star cast of lecturers. Attendees can expect to participate in a course that is unparalleled in the world, with experts each devoting several days to teaching the fundamentals, theory and practical considerations of crystallographic structure solution.
Topics to be covered include:
- Basic diffraction theory
- Crystallization (proteins, nucleic acids, complexes and membrane proteins)
- Synchrotron X-ray sources and optics
- Data collection and processing
