The European High Pressure Research Group (EHPRG) was established in the sixties of the last century to support a development of both the basic as well as the applied high pressure research by the annual meetings. The European Powder Diffraction Conference, EPDIC, is a biannual conference dedicated to all aspects of the analysis of polycrystalline materials by diffraction methods. Each EPDIC has the aim to highlight the latest developments in powder diffraction including methodology, data analysis and instrumental advances. EPDICs traditionally bring together scientists from institutes, universities and instrumentation companies to discuss the progress in academic and industrial research related to powder diffraction. This biannual conference of IntACT (International Association of Computed Tomography) will focus on the use of 3D tomographic methods for (non-clinical) studies of the internal structures of materials and their evolution.

ICTMS 2017 will bring together an international group of scientists, from universities, research organisations and industry, to discuss a broad range of issues related to 3D/4D tomographic imaging of materials and structures.

The call for abstracts will remain open until 28 January 2017.

The main focus of this conference will be recent advances in the following areas:

• Tomography acquisition hardware, software and associated experimental set-ups.
• In situ and in-operandi experiments
• "Standard" and novel modalities of tomographic imaging for material analysis (using diffraction, refraction, absorption... of X-rays, neutrons, electrons...)
• Tomographic reconstruction techniques

Photonic Crystals-Inhibited Spontaneous Emission: Optical Antennas-Enhanced Spontaneous Emission

Photonic crystals have now been identified within the coloration of peacocks, parrots, chameleons, butterflies and many other species. But photonic crystals are also part of everyday technological life in opto-electronic telecommunication devices that provide us with internet, cloud storage, and email.Â

Nonetheless, the original motivation of photonic crystals was to create a “bandgap” in which the spontaneous emission of light would be prevented. The “optical antenna” can have the opposite effect, accelerating spontaneous emission. Over 100 years after the radio antenna, we finally have tiny “optical antennas” which can act on molecules and quantum dots. With optical antennas, spontaneous light emission can become faster than stimulated emission.Â
