ECM24 is over…….

Dear delegates, Dear accompanying guests, Dear sponsors and exhibitors,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee I would like to thank you for your large participation in ECM24.Â

The participation in the ECM24 was one of the largest over the last ten years. The scientific and social programs were particularly attractive to scientists from more than 50 countries. In addition, three workshops and satellite meetings and several meetings of Special Interest Groups, and round table were held before the opening of ECM24 and during the meeting. Â

ECM24 was very attractive for sponsors and exhibitors. 24 companies and organizations attended the meeting. Â

I am very grateful to the Programme Committee, the chairpersons of SIGs, the microsymposia chairpersons and the excellent speakers who have contributed to the success of ECM24.Â

The continuous support and encouragement of the ECA Executive Committee is kindly acknowledged.Â

I would like to thank the sponsors and exhibitors for their participation which was synergetic and vital to the success of this event. Â

I am very grateful to the IUCr, the ECA, the Organization for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapon (OPCW) and the University Cadi Ayyad of Marrakech for their financial support to the young scientists and scientists from emerging countries. The invited speakers who renounced any financial assistance have made the participation of many young international researchers possible. They will find here all my thank and my respect.Â

I wish to thank my colleagues on the local organizing committee, the Congress Secretariat leaded by Prof Nouzha Bouhmaida assisted by Mrs Siham Rezzouqui, my colleagues on the Organizing and Bursary Committees for their wonderful work. The Fifth International Conference on Solid State Crystals and Eighth Polish Conference on Crystal Growth (ICSSC-5 & PCCG-8) continues traditions of both ICSSC and PCCG Conferences. PCCG-8 is a national meeting of the crystal growth community of Poland and is organized by the Polish Society for Crystal Growth (PSCG). The Conference is directed toward exchange of recent developments in crystal growth in Poland and in other countries. Therefore, PCCG-8 has many lecturers and participants from abroad. At the same time, the Conference follows the tradition of the International Solid State Crystal Conferences which, being international, is directed toward development of basic research and applications in optoelectronics. The theme for the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Society For Biomaterials is “Pioneering the Future of Biomaterials”, a nod to the historical significance of our host city, Denver, Colorado, and a recognition of the pioneering spirit required to advance the scientific frontier.

The Annual Meeting focuses on fostering development of new implant materials and devices for improvement of the human condition. The meeting program will include the latest innovations in materials science, molecular and cell biology and engineering, new opportunities and mechanisms for translation of these findings to new or improved medical treatments, and engagement of attendees from industry and academia to accelerate the translation of research to clinical applications.Â

The meeting format will include Symposia, General Sessions, Workshops, Panel Discussions, and Tutorials, covering all aspects of basic, applied, and translational biomaterials science.

National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center and User Executive Committee sincerely invite you to participate in and present your recent research results at Annual Users' Meeting and 20th Anniversary of Operation on September 4 - 5, 2013.Â
The meeting will begin on September 4 with sessions covering the current status reports and future plans regarding NSRRC’s light source & beamlines. After that, several notable users from different fields will present their cutting-edge research. In the afternoon, seven interest groups and the Users’ Town Meeting, hosted by the User Executive Committee (UEC), will take place sequentially. During the Users’ Town Meeting, users can communicate and discuss issues related to the experiments, user service and future development at NSRRC with Director Chang. In addition, this year is the 20th anniversary of operation. All the attendees are invited to join the celebration for the anniversary with us.Â
On September 5, two workshops will be held simultaneously. Oral presentations for the poster contest will be held and classified into different groups according to their research fields. Each Poster Contest group will have a first prize winner and he/she will be presented with the “Glory of Taiwan” award in the subsequent dinner banquet and the awards ceremony.Â

Workshop I: Unconventional Photoelectron Spectroscopy: NAP-XPS and HAXPESÂ

The aim of the workshop is to bring experts to discuss the recent development of unconventional x-ray photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS) either operated with sample kept at near ambient pressure (NAP) or performed with hard x-ray (HAX) photons. These two powerful variants of XPS make possible the investigation of in-situ catalysis phenomenon and interfacial electronic structure of semiconductor heterojunction, respectively. The construction of these two facilities has been incorporated into TPS phase II project.Â

Workshop II: Applications of Synchrotron Radiation to Structural Biology.Â

The aim of this workshop is to provide great opportunities and new applications for the studies of structural biology by utilizing and integrating the current NSRRC facilities toward future development. During the workshop, distinguished scientists and scholars will present their recent research and development using protein crystallography (PX), X-ray small angle scattering (XSAS), circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) Microscopy.Â

AMN-7 is the seventh in our biennial series of meetings that focus on the latest research on advanced materials and nanotechnology. This event will continue the best traditions of previous events, which include a range of high-impact plenary presentations, cutting-edge invited and contributed talks, interactive poster presentations and convivial social events. The intimate scale of AMN conferences and the broad interests of fellow delegates offer many opportunities for networking and interdisciplinary discussions.

The venue of AMN-7 â€" the city of Nelson â€" has special significance for New Zealand science as it is the birthplace of Ernest Rutherford, the Nobel Prize winner for chemistry in 1908. The Rutherford Hotel will serve as the main conference venue.

ICANS (International Collaboration on Advanced Neutron Sources) is a network for scientists who are involved in developing pulsed neutron sources and accelerator based spallation neutron sources.

Since 1st ICANS meetings was held in 1977 at Argonne National Laboratory in the day of dawn of spallation neutron technique, ICANS has been continuously held already 20 times somewhere in the world. Now we are extremely happy to announce that the next ICANS, the 21st meeting, will be held at Mito hosted by J-PARC this autumn.

The meeting has a two layered structure, one is plenary session and another is workshop. Two of them are complementary and tightly cooperate each other. In the meeting we would like to enhance "workshop style", which is an original and traditional way of ICANS. Actually 2/3 of topics will be discussed in the workshop sessions. It also will be essentially organized/lead by the workshop chairs. Plenary session shows overall issues in a relevant workshop, whose details should be talked/discussed in the workshop

The 12th International Conference on X-ray Microscopy is a gathering for the presentation and discussion of advances in high resolution x-ray imaging and its application to a wide field of scientific challenges.

The scientific program will feature invited speakers and promote student participation, with over 80 talks and posters anticipated. A tour of the Australian Synchrotron will form a part of the program. The social activities at XRM2014 will showcase Australia's history, culture, food and wine, as you experience real Australian hospitality and friendship in one of the world's most liveable cities.

The 1st AOCNS in Tsukuba, Japan, in 2011 was a great success and established this as the flagship series of neutron scattering meetings in the region.

This meeting will provide physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, geologists, materials scientists and others the opportunity to discuss to share and discuss their research findings as well as the latest developments in neutron scattering techniques. AOCNS is also the leading forum in which delegates can participate in shaping the future directions of neutron scattering science and facilities in Asia-Oceania.

• These neutron scattering facilities are the biggest and most expensive pieces of research infrastructure in most of the countries that operate them.
• The quadrennial AOCNS meeting is the flagship neutron scattering meeting in our region, on an equal footing with the ACNS (American Conference on Neutron Scattering) and ECNS (European Conference Neutron Scattering).

The conference is a continuation of the series of Polish Corrosion Society meetings, which is organised periodically every three years. The privilege of holding the 11th conference was given to the Silesian University of Technology, namely its Chemical and Materials Engineering and Metallurgy faculties. CORROSION 2014 is the major event in Poland in the field of corrosion science and engineering and will be a great opportunity to meet and interact with academia, industry and end users within recent developments in all areas of corrosion and corrosion protection. The 10th World Conference on Neutron Radiography (WCNR-10) will attract scientist active in the field of neutron imaging either as designers and/or operators of facilities or as users of such installations. During the conference the latest methodical developments, instrumentation layout and improvements and new applications will be presented and discussed.

WCNR-10 continues a series of meetings that was initiated and started in San Diego (USA) in 1986. In intervals of about four years the conference moved between USA, Japan and Europe until the most recent one (WCNR-9) that took place in South Africa in 2010. See the proceedings of WCNR-9

Given by the progress of the detector development the method of neutron imaging has become much more efficient than in the past and new techniques (tomography, real-time imaging, etc.) have become common tools for different research applications. A world-wide active community of both method and application oriented members has grown within the network organized within ISNR. Many powerful neutron imaging beam lines now operate as user facilities and the systems are shared among very different research teams. The access to neutron imaging at user facilites has also resulted in a growing user community that benefit from the latest developments at the instuments.

HEC-17 is being organized by Dr Manfred Weiss and Dr Uwe Müller from the Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) Group of the Institute Soft Matter and Functional Materials (F-ISFM) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

The meeting will welcome a prominent scientist to give the renowned HEC keynote speech. The keynote speech will be given by Prof. Dr Gerhard Klebe, who is currently professor for pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Marburg, Germany. Focus of his research is directed towards the understanding of protein-ligand interactions, including chemical synthesis, microcalorimetry, molecular biology, crystallography, bioinformatics and software development.
