You are cordially invited to participate in the 3rd International Conference on CRYSTALLOGENESIS AND MINERALOGY to be held in Novosibirsk, September 27 â€" October 1, 2013 at the resort complex “Sosnovka” located near Academy Town, one of the biggest Russian scientific centers where Novosibirsk State University and 35 research institutes are located.
The Conference will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of recent research and development activities in fundamental and applied crystallogenesis and mineralogy. The scientific program will include both oral and poster sessions, as well as plenary and invited talks to provide a complete picture of the latest developments in the field. A satellite symposium “Deep carbon cycle: mineralogy and crystal chemistry of carbon-bearing compounds” and a post-conference Workshop “Frontiers of crystallography” are also planned.

Welcome to ECDM 6!

As a continuation of previous meetings held in Nancy (1996, France), Sitges (1999, Spain), Sandbjerg Estate (2003, Denmark), Brandenburg on the Havel (2006, Germany) and Gravedona (2008, Italy), we have the pleasure to announce the sixth conference of the European Charge Density Meeting series, ECDM-6.
Analogously to previous conferences we would like to present the latest results of electron structure studies. The ambition of organizers is to strengthen the collaboration between experimentalists and theorists. The construction of large facilities such as XFEL is a great challenge for all researchers in this field. Thanks to great improvements in experimental equipment as well as more powerful computers nowadays it is necessary to spread the results of charge density analysis in both the chemistry and the materials science communities in order to bring new practical applications.
We regard it as important to exploit the cross-fertilization of scientific ideas within the discussions of new research directions that should naturally result from the mixing of ideas of particular participants. This will also be the occasion to start thinking about specific programs in the charge density realm, how to exploit the funding by european science programs.
As a meeting venue we have chosen the city of Štrbské Pleso, a charming small village at the same glacial mountain lake in the High Tatras, a well known part of Slovakia. September has nice and stable weather, so we believe that we will have a nice time for relaxing. If you will come few days before or stay after the conference, this will largely increase your chance to enjoy nice sunny days on the lake and/or on the wonderful mountains surrounding the area.
Participants are expected to arrive to Štrbské Pleso in the afternoon of Saturday, September 15th for welcome reception. The meeting will run from Sunday, September 16th morning until Wednesday, September 19 evening. We will have the social excursion on Tuesday and later in the evening the ECDM-6 Social Dinner. ECDM-6 will then run over the next day and will be closed by a ceremony after the afternoon session on Wednesday, September 19th. Departure by conference buses is on Thursday, September 20th at 9 a.m.
We look forward bringing together an outstanding and diverse group of scientists at the forefront of charge density research and we promise to make attempts to include younger scientists and PhD and degree students as well.

Three years after their second successful Meeting (MISCA 2010, Oviedo, Spain), and six years after they organized their first joint Conference in Italy (MISCA 2007, Copannello di Stalettì, Italy), the Italian and Spanish Crystallography Associations deemed it necessary to renew this traditional event.
Stimulated also by the interest shown by the Swiss Crystallography Society, the three National Associations have merged their efforts to organize, in the beautiful surroundings of Villa Olmo, on the shore of the Lake of Como, the first Meeting of the Italian, Spanish and Swiss Crystallography Associations - MISSCA 2013.
In our intentions, the Conference will contribute to broaden the scientific contacts among the Members of the three communities. Â Moreover, thanks to the choice of an easily accessible location near Central Europe, it may attract scientists from neighboring Countries and fields.
Nearly one century has passed since Nobel Prizes were awarded for the discovery of diffraction by crystals and for closely related scientific activities. Later on, in 1927, Villa Olmo hosted the first Volta Conference, in which the uncertainty principle by Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg was originally disclosed. It is therefore a pleasure for us to invite you to attend the MISSCA 2013 Conference, timely juxtaposing a historical location with a memory of  significant change of paradigms in Science. Dear Participants of BSR-2013,
we would like to thank you very much for your attendance and for the great atmosphere at the recent BSR-2013 conference in Hamburg. The conference was an important milestone in the developments of synchrotron radiation and free electron laser applications in biology.
We hope that all of you enjoyed the exciting program covering the most important present and further directions, and the scientific sessions containing excellent talks and lively discussions.
One of the highlights was a visit to the life science facilities at the DESY campus, and we received very positive comments about this visit and about the conference overall.
We have distributed a questionnaire about the conference which we encourage you to answer. Your answers will help us and future organisers of the BSR conferences to further improve and optimise the running of this conference series.
The conference had a great spirit due to the synergy between the speakers, chairs and participants, and also thanks to the excellent work of the local team from EMBL Hamburg and the Conference Office team from EMBL Heidelberg. Both teams were already sent our sincere thanks.
BSR-2013 was a great success and we look forward to the next conference in three years in Stanford.

The XXII Conference on Applied Crystallography

September 02-06, 2012, Targanice, Poland  The Conference will provide a platform for crystallographers, material scientists and solid state physicists to discuss methods and techniques used in crystallography studies, to present their recent achievements in solving different material problems, to promote new ideas in the field of material science. The conference programme will include oral and poster presentations covering both the fundamental and applied research.

The 12th International Conference on Quasicrystals (ICQ12)Â will be held on September 1 - 6, 2013, at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, AGH University, Krakow, Poland.Â
ICQ12 provides an excellent opportunity to learn about new results in the field of quasicrystals and related topics. The ICQ12 follows the Nobel Prize given to Dan Shechtman in 2011 for the discovery of quasicrystals. Professor Shechtman will be an honourable guest of the Conference.Â
ICQ12 also offers an opportunity for researchers working on quasicrystals and related topics to exchange ideas and encourage collaborations with other research groups, hence promoting material science and engineering.Â

About ECCG4Â

Modern crystal growth research is strongly aligned with crystallographic analysis and methodology, particularly in the area of industrial crystallization and materials characterisation.Â
The meeting is being organised by the newly formed European Network for Crystals Growth (ENCG) under the auspices of the International Organisation for Crystal Growth (IOCG) and seeks to draw together European expertise in crystal growth and crystallization in an holistic manner from fundamentals through to applications.  This meeting will target Professors, Doctors, Industry Professional and Students interested in the field of Crystal Growth.Â

Resonant Elastic X-ray Scattering 2011

The first conference dedicated to Anomalous or Resonant X-ray Scattering took place in Madrid in 1974, followed in 1992 by Malente conference (Hamburg, Germany, published as: "Resonant Anomalous X-Ray Scattering", by G. Materlik, C.J. Sparks & K. Fischer,North-Holland,1994). The aim was to bring together scientists using this novel technique specific to synchrotron radiation in a variety of fields.
20 years or so later, scientists of third generation synchrotrons intensively use this technique that opened to a broad range of applications such as magnetism and nanoscience. A need emerges of a school / conference with published synthesis that would set a similar milestone in condensed matter research. In order to favor scientific exchanges, we restrict the topics to elastic resonant scattering in condensed matter.
Aim of the conference: bring together young and experienced scientists from different fields in condensed matter to share their experience on the application of Elastic Anomalous/Resonant Small, or/and Wide Angle Scattering (including diffraction and reflectivity).
The conference will cover the following topics:

The 2012 GRC on Crystal Engineering follows the highly successful first ever GRC on Crystal Engineering (2010) which had over 160 international participants. The 2012 Crystal Engineering GRC will also include a new and exciting Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) in which only students and postdocs may present or lead discussions. Both the GRC and GRS on Crystal Engineering provide a forum for the discussion of the current state of the art of this rapidly evolving, highly interdisciplinary field, to identify and debate open questions, and to point out new and promising research directions.
Crystal engineering is the design and synthesis of functional solid-state structures (e.g., new organic molecular crystals and metal-organic co-ordination polymers and framework solids (MOFs)), based on a bottom-up approach from smaller building blocks such as neutral organic molecules, and organic or inorganic ions. Typical design strategies use hydrogen bonds and coordination bonds, which define sub-structural units that are called respectively, supramolecular synthons and secondary building units. This subject cuts across the traditional divisions of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, making for a very eclectic blend of ideas, techniques, and strategies.
This GRC and the accompanying GRS will provide a forum for the discussion of the current state of the art of this rapidly evolving, highly interdisciplinary field, will identify and debate open questions, and will point out new promising research directions. These conferences will bring together experts with a diverse background and will consist of the following sessions:

Pushing the Limits of Experimental and Theoretical Charge and Spin Density Studies

The Gordon Conference on Electron Distribution and Chemical Bonding is typically devoted to discussion on the nature of chemical interactions by studying the electron density distribution of molecules or solids. This attracts contributions from various fields, ranging from quantum chemistry and theoretical physics to experimental crystallography, materials chemistry and solid state physics.
The frontiers of this scientific area are addressed by putting the focus on the exploration of new types of chemical bonding/interactions and the identification of the control parameters providing the basis for a rational materials/drug design. Accordingly, the topics also enclose recent and future innovative concepts such as state-of-the-art charge density studies at "non-standard conditions" (high pressure, electric field, etc.) or novel techniques to explore photochemical or ultrafast processes. Another focus lies on the challenge to perform charge density studies at subatomic resolution. Here, the conference attributes to the dramatic instrumental achievements in pushing the resolution limits to meet the requirements for the study of core polarization effects.

Accuracy in Powder Diffraction IV

Purpose:

We are pleased to announce the location and dates for our next "Accuracy in Powder Diffraction" meeting. This meeting, designated APD-IV, is the fourth in the series which are held approximately every ten years. They constitute a review of the state of the art in powder diffraction techniques, instrumentation and data analysis methods. The meeting will host a program of invited presentations plus a contributed poster session. APD-IV will cover the broad range of developments in powder diffraction metrology and methodology in the time since APD-III. In addition, we will host an exhibition area where leading instrument manufacturers and providers will be available to discuss recent commercial developments in the diffraction context.

7th International Conference on Inelastic X-ray Scattering

11-14 October 2010, World Trade Center, Grenoble

Programme

The IXS2010 conference will bring together researchers from all over the world working in the field of inelastic X-ray scattering. It is intended to provide a forum for the presentation of novel results, discussion on present and future trends and for an intense exchange between participants utilising the various IXS techniques for a wide variety of different applications.
The conference will cover electronic resonant and non-resonant scattering (in the soft- and hard X-ray regime), emission spectroscopy, meV-resolved atomic dynamics, nuclear inelastic scattering, Compton scattering, and thermal diffuse scattering.
Presentations will consist of invited and contributed talks and two poster sessions. The schedule will allow ample time for informal discussions.

International Conference on Neutron and X-Ray Scattering (ICNX 2009)

In view ofthe success of previous neutron and x-ray scattering conference in this region (ICNX 2007, Serpong and Bandung, Indonesia), it has been decided to reconvene the International Conference on Neutron and X-Ray Scattering, in 2009. The conference will take place from June 29, 30 and july 1, 2009 at Putra World Trade Centrre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.Â

Scattering technique using neutron and x-ray is a powerful method to probe and study the structures and dynamics of materials ranging from the mechanics of protein folding and its effect in physiology to the ordering of atomic magnets of solid materials of industrial interest. Both neutron and x-ray can be exploited using a variety of measurement techniques to provide information not otherwise available.Â

The availability of new optical system that can micro-focus neutron provides opportunity to explore new characterization technique and full-utilization of small research reactor that scattered throughout the world. The emergences of new synchrotrons allow more scientists to use high-intensity x-ray for their research. In addition, new modeling approach and software development permit valuable connection between theoretical and experimental analysis. Â Characterization with neutron and x-ray scattering has made significant contribution to the large research activities in engineering, materials development, polymer dynamics, chemical technology, biological studies, and physics, and will continue to do so.Â

The objective of this conference is to bring together scientists who develop neutron and x-ray scattering instruments, perform characterization experiments, synthesized materials and computation. Discussion will be focused on recent results and ideas in these areas. The conference will consist of lectures and poster on new and emerging areas in scattering technique

Clays, clay minerals and layered materials

Moscow, Russia, 21 - 25 September 2009

Previous meetings on clays and clay minerals were held in Voronezh (2004) and Puschino (2006). The present meeting is devoted to the study of clay minerals and layered materials and their industrial applications. Layered materials always attract a lot of attention due to the variety of chemical composition, structure and properties. Today a special interest is given to the application of layered materials in nanotechnology. The conference has an interdisciplinary character. It is aimed to join specialists working with layered materials in the different fields of fundamental and applied science.Â

This interdisciplinary meeting presents programming in these topical areas:

• Synthesis, structure and characteristics of clay minerals and layered materials

The proceedings have now been published electronically as volume 226 of Journal of Physics: Conference Series. All papers in the proceedings volume are open access. Printed copies of the proceedings volume will be mailed to participants soon.
Aperiodic'09 was the sixth International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals, organized under the auspices of the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). It followed Aperiodic'94 (Les Diablerets), Aperiodic'97 (Alpe d'Huez), Aperiodic'2000 (Nijmegen), Aperiodic'03 (Belo Horizonte) and Aperiodic'06 (Zao). The next conference in this series will be held in Australia in 2012, organised by Ray Withers.
