Accurately matching an experimental powder X-ray pattern to a crystal structure is essential for identifying materials, especially for polymorphs in complex landscapes. The CSD-Materials suite now includes a CSD Python API feature based on the FIDEL method, known as AutoFIDEL, which allows for matching and optimizing crystal structures against experimental powder diffraction patterns, without requiring high-resolution transmission data and with preferred orientation.
The FIDEL method can compensate for the preferred orientation frequently seen in powder data. It involves optimising the match between the experimental pattern and the simulated pattern of a selected structure, through varying the structure’s lattice parameters. It has proven effective for factors like preferred orientation and sample height displacement.Â

ECRS is a well-established conference series that focuses on residual stresses in structural and functional materials. Through the words of her closest collaborators, this symposium will highlight her outstanding contribution spanning from fundamental approaches to very practical industrially relevant questions on everyday products.

The advanced experimental techniques using ultrabright and tunable X-ray, VUV or IR synchrotron and free electron laser radiation are indispensable tools to investigate the properties of matter with unprecedented space, spectral and time resolution.  Tightly focused beams of high intensity and coherence are especially well suited for chemical, morphological and structural characterization of materials under operando conditions. The topical sessions will focus on some of the major challenges of our century -  engineering materials capable of transforming efficiently chemical energy and solar energy into electricity and fuel. Opportunities also exist with x-rays for tackling challenges associated  with developing high capacity energy storage devices. The recent achievements in studies of interfacial electrochemical processes and charge transfer phenomena will be reported with selected presentations illustrating the potentials of the instruments, operated at the large scale facilities, with emphasis on the latest developments. We solicit abstracts demonstrating the recent achievements using synchrotron and FEL-based analytical methods spanning from all types of XRF, scattering (including RIXS and CDI), spectroscopy (including XRPES and XES) and X-ray imaging and microspectroscopy (SPEM, XPEEM, SXTM, TXM).Â

Accuracy in Powder Diffraction IV

Purpose:

We are pleased to announce the location and dates for our next "Accuracy in Powder Diffraction" meeting. This meeting, designated APD-IV, is the fourth in the series which are held approximately every ten years. They constitute a review of the state of the art in powder diffraction techniques, instrumentation and data analysis methods. The meeting will host a program of invited presentations plus a contributed poster session. APD-IV will cover the broad range of developments in powder diffraction metrology and methodology in the time since APD-III. In addition, we will host an exhibition area where leading instrument manufacturers and providers will be available to discuss recent commercial developments in the diffraction context.

11th EUROPEAN SOFC & SOE FORUM

18th Conference in Series with Exhibition

The 11th EUROPEAN SOFC FORUM will be a highlight of the European high temperature fuel cell year. This time, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and Electrolysers, Proton Conducting Ceramic Fuel Cells and Mixed Ione-Electronic Ceramics â€" SOFC, SOE, PCFC and MIEC â€" will be featured. The topics will range from material to systems and FC&H demonstrations and deployment projects.

Venue place is again the attractive "Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern" (KKL) on the waterfront of the Lake of charming Lucerne in the heart of Switzerland.
The EUROPEAN SOFC FORUM consists of a Fuel Cell TUTORIAL on Tuesday, July 1, two parallel lecture series from Wednesday, July 2 to Friday, July 4 and a Fuel Cell EXHIBITION open from Tuesday 16:00 h to Friday 12:00 h. Onsite registration starts on Tuesday, 16:00 h followed by the Welcome Reception from 18:00 to 19:00 h. The Forum is known for its relaxed atmosphere, good food services and attractive side events. All participants will receive the Electronic Proceedings at the time of registration. Social gatherings like the "Swiss Surprise", or the "Dinner on the Lake" on board beautifully restored paddle wheel steamers create excellent opportunities for networking and friendliness.
