The 2014 Annual Conference of the BACG will be hosted by the University of Leeds, which is the home of the pioneering work underpinning the discipline of X-ray crystallography undertaken by William Henry Bragg and his son, William Lawrence Bragg in 1912-13, and for which they were jointly awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1915. This conference will provide a forum for the exchange of scientific/technological ideas and findings amongst researchers from the UK and overseas focusing on the following topics. X-ray crystallography is the pre-eminent technique for obtaining the three dimensional structures of organic materials. Understanding the translation of molecules to crystals and thought functional assembles is key if we want to be able to predict and control the assembly of matter with sufficient certainty and precision to allow preparation of materials and assemblies with far more sophisticated properties and functions than are accessible in materials synthesized using current methods. Great advances continue to be made in determining crystal structures, allowing the pace of structural understanding to increase and making it possible to respond rapidly to emerging opportunities in crystal and particle engineering. This course will help to equip the next generation of scientists with a deep understanding of the tools they need to prototype and engineer crystals to design materials with increasingly sophisticated properties.
The course has two core objectives. Firstly, it will provide a review of the fundamentals and the application of crystallography to molecule to crystal to functional form design together with an evaluation of the technology at the present state. Secondly, it will review the progress in this field and summarize the application and results to other fields of interest across speciality chemicals and other fields

In order to reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the Course, attendants will be selected on the basis of the scientific discipline, publication record and the connection between their current research and the listed topics. The application date might also become a priority element. Financial support for young applicants (under 35 of age) is conditional to the success of the several applications submitted by the organizing committee to international and national sources.

In Florence
 An ancient tradition links the study of crystallography to this city, which during the sixteenth century saw the Medici family attracting on the banks of the Arno river Nicolas Steno, who stated the first law of crystallography. In the same period the Medici started to collect some crystalline specimens, first nucleus of one of the most precious and ancient collections of natural crystals.
The program selected by the Scientific and Organizing committees is thought to support the participation and contacts between members of the two groups involved, enabling the exchange of ideas in scientific fields (such as crystal growth, methods and techniques for structure determination, molecular recognition, polymer and material science, molecular medicine and structural biology), different and sometimes seemingly distant, but all associated with crystallography.
Thus, a hundred years after the international awards for the fundamental importance of studing matter by means of crystals, we are confident that Florence, the cradle of Renaissance ideas, will be the venue in which scientists from different fields will innovate and find stimuli for growth and collaboration.

In this School of Advanced Studies will be treated theoretical and practical aspects of crystallographic methods applied to the determination of the chemical structure of materials. The proposed themes for the School involve all material science, control and Description of industrial crystallization processes, nanotechnology, and especially polymorphism and co-crystallisation of drugs. The second school in Crystallization and Crystallography for Latin America (ECRISLA) will feature internationally recognized experts and will be taught at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Brazil.

Australasian Course in Macromolecular Crystallization 2013 (ACMC_13)

The fourth Australasian Course in Macromolecular Crystallisation will be held in Parkville, Victoria (Melbourne) between the 9th and 13th of December, 2013. Â This course is an intensive, hands-on practical course that combines lectures on all aspects of macromolecular crystallisation, from sample preparation to cryo-protection and harvesting of crystals. One day will be spent at the MX and SAX beamlines of the Australian Synchrotron.Â

The School of Advanced Studies in Crystallization and Crystallography for Latin America (ECRISLA) sponsored by the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) and promoted by the International Organization of Crystal Growth (IOCG) is addressed to graduate students from Brazil and Latin America. These areas of knowledge, crystallization and crystallography are complementary, the event is an important opportunity to deepen their knowledge in an integrated manner. ECRISLA want to create a space for study, discussion and confraternization among teachers, internationally recognized experts, and students. To this end, national and international speakers will address various topics of theoretical and practical methods of crystallization and crystallography studies applied to structure determination of organic compounds and bioinorganic, the crystallization of drugs, materials science and nanotechnology. ECRISLA is structured in two distinct modules: Module 1: Crystallization and Module2: Crystallography. The number of entries for the event will be limited, and partial scholarship can be given to a limited number of students. The level of the school is intended for post-graduate and post-doctoral students as well as researchers from industry and academia who are interested in fundamental knowledge of crystal growth and epitaxy.

The Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies (CSIC-UGR) organised the 3rd International School of Crystallization (ISC2012, http://www.iscgranada.org/) under the auspices of the International Union of Crystallography through the Crystal Growth and Characterization of Materials Commission. The event took place in the Centre of the beautiful City of Granada, an ideal place to promote close scientific and social interactions between the attendees.ÂThe School was aimed for postgraduate/postdoctoral students as well as research scientists from industry and academia that deal routinely with crystallisation processes but seek fundamental knowledge on the crystallisation phenomena and the behaviour of crystallising solutions. Students from all over the world were invited to learn from top quality international speakers, to hear case study presentations, to watch practical hands-on demonstrations, to participate in round table discussions and to present their research results in the purposely dedicated poster sessions.
ISC2012 covered five days of lectures and practical demonstrations related to the field of the crystallization of foods, drugs and agrochemical compounds, including dedicated sessions on polymorphism and mineral growth.
