This course is primarily aimed at young researchers, instrument and development scientists at international and national neutron facilities who have a basic understanding of neutron scattering but have less background in polarized neutron instrumentation. Lectures on theory, sources, and neutron instrumentation, and tutoring on various scattering techniques will be provided. Graduate students or postdocs at universities with an interest in neutron instrumentation projects are also highly welcome.

iNEXT course: â€Å"X-ray and neutron diffraction studies of macromolecules: from data collection to structures

Students are encouraged to send crystals in advance, which will then be shipped to Diamond, for remote X-ray data collection. Students are also encouraged to bring their own raw X-ray data images which are difficult to process or their own X-ray data sets for which molecular replacement calculations have turned out to be difficult.
There is no registration fee and we aim to cover also the accommodation costs and meals of the students. Application for the course can be sent in January and the deadline is 31.01.2017. The course is aimed at PhD-students and postdocs working on structural biology projects using X-ray or neutron diffraction methods. The application should include a motivation letter and a letter from the supervisor. The LAHN Project (Laboratorio Argentino de Haces de Neutrones) is pleased to announce the 1st Argentinean Conference on Neutron Scattering (TN2017) which will be held in Buenos Aires on the 15th and 16th March, 2017. In addition, on Friday 17th March , a joint workshop will be organised with the Argentinean Ministry of Science and Technology (MinCyT) to discuss the second phase of instrumentation of the LAHN Project.
Horace & SpinW Workshop

Another training course on how to get the most out of the Horace software package will be held, and this time it will be a joint workshop with the SpinW team. The course will be split into two parts, with 2 days spent on Horace and 2.5 days spent on SpinW. Participants may attend either or both of the two workshops.
The workshop will be held at the ISIS neutron source, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. Accommodation is available (and already booked) for all participants on-site. Participants must cover their own transportation and accommodation costs - rooms are £60 per night (including all meals).

The school will be held in Utting/Ammersee and Garching/Munich, Germany, in cooperation with the Röntgen-Ã...ngström-Cluster (http://www.rontgen-angstrom.eu) and the BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, Germany).
The Winter School will provide a systematic overview of the application of neutrons and synchrotron radiation to the structural analysis of materials. The school starts with the fundamentals of synchrotron radiation and neutron scattering. The focus is subsequently shifted towards neutron techniques and their application to specific problems in materials science. Different classes of modern functional materials are presented and it will be shown how neutron scattering, on the one hand, and synchrotron radiation, on the other hand, can be used to explore the microscopic mechanisms that are responsible for their properties. While fundamental aspects are dominating, application related phenomena will be covered as well.
After a two-day theoretical course in Utting/Ammersee the participants will spend two days at the FRM II in Garching (near Munich) doing practicals. The fifth day of the school offers further talks and a final discussion. All relevant experimental methods will be covered.

ICTMS 2017: 3rd International Conference on Tomography of Materials and Structures

This biannual conference of IntACT (International Association of Computed Tomography) will focus on the use of 3D tomographic methods for (non-clinical) studies of the internal structures of materials and their evolution.
ICTMS 2017 will bring together an international group of scientists, from universities, research organisations and industry, to discuss a broad range of issues related to 3D/4D tomographic imaging of materials and structures.
The call for abstracts will remain open until 28 January 2017.
The main focus of this conference will be recent advances in the following areas:
- Tomography acquisition hardware, software and associated experimental set-ups.
- In situ and in-operandi experiments
- "Standard" and novel modalities of tomographic imaging for material analysis (using diffraction, refraction, absorption... of X-rays, neutrons, electrons...)
- Tomographic reconstruction techniques
- 3D and 4D image analysis to extract pertinent information on internal structures and their evolution
- Case studies including applications to further the understanding of materials, structures and processes.
International Collaboration on Advanced Neutron Sources (ICANS XXII) Meeting

The 22nd meeting of the International Collaboration on Advanced Neutron Sources (ICANS XXII) will be held on the 27th -31st March 2017 in Oxford, England.

 The abstract submission deadline is 30 November 2016.  ICANS is an informal network of laboratories whose scientists and engineers are involved in developing pulsed neutron sources and accelerator based spallation neutron sources.  The collaboration was founded in 1977 as a forum to promote discussions and collaborative work, and to share information on three main topics: accelerators, targets and moderators, and instruments.  After 24 years, the meeting returns to the UK and will be hosted by the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source at the Said Business School, University of Oxford with accommodation at St Anne’s College.  In addition to the core areas of accelerators, target and instrumentation, other key areas such as sample environment, data analysis and computing, polarisation, detectors, shielding and neutronics will be discussed.  It is the principal goal of ICANS to promote and facilitate informal discussions and, as such, the meeting will comprise several workshop sessions.   Key dates: Abstract submission deadline: 30 November 2016 Early registration deadline: 31 January 2017 Registration deadline: 17 March 2017 Paper submission deadline: 27 March 2017
The First UAE Synchrotron User Meeting

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together the best scientists from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and synchrotron experts and see how the most strategic fields for the UAEÂ can be addressed through synchrotron science. UAE scientists will include both national and non-national speakers. International top synchrotron experts will give a talk at the event.
One of the main points will be to understand what the requirements of the UAE scientists are in terms of synchrotron research (what types of beamlines, techniques, etc.). Once these are defined, we will try to understand what would be the best option in terms of costs and benefits for the UAE.

MDANSE 2016. Molecular (and Lattice) Dynamics to Analyse Neutron Scattering Experiments

The goal of this school is to show how widely-available simulation tools can be applied to the analysis and interpretation of neutron scattering data. The school will last for three days and will concern mainly the practical aspects of running and analysing simulations so that, numerical and experimental data can be directly compared and simulations can then be investigated in atomic detail.
The focus will be on the use of Molecular Dynamics and lattice dynamics simulations to explore diffusive processes on the time scales covered by low energy neutron scattering spectrometers, phonon dispersion curves and vibrational densities of states that are typically measured with low energy and inelastic neutron scattering spectrometers.
The school is designed for providing practical training, so the number of participants is limited to 40. In order to select candidates, we ask applicants to state briefly their scientific fields of interest, why they would like to attend the school and previous experience with computer simulations.
