16th Conference of the Asian Crystallographic Association (AsCA2019)
-
In National University of Singapore
The AsCA 2019 serves to showcase rapid developments of crystallography in our region. We are anticipating more than 400 delegates from Asian countries. This will provide a platform for those working in these areas to present their most recent research findings and to exchange ideas in frontier research topics in crystallography. The meeting aims to organize a number of scientific sessions devoted to various research fields of crystallography, crystallographic workshops, flash presentations sessions for young researchers and a ‘Rising Star’ session featuring young scientists. The scientific scope of AsCA2019 will cover all important aspects of crystallography-related areas, including crystal growth/crystallisation, synchrotron, neutron & electron diffraction, structural biology, bioinformatics, chemical crystallography, crystal engineering, materials and polymer science, pharmaceuticals, electron microscopy, and much more.
As you might know, the first Asian Crystallographic Association conference (AsCA’92) was held in Singapore in November 1992 organized by the late Prof. Koh Lip Lin, Department of Chemistry. Thus, AsCA comes home to Singapore after 27 years!
We heartily welcome you to Singapore to participate in this conference along with your students, postdocs, colleagues, and others. Please mark the conference dates in your calendar. We are not sure when will be the next time you will see 400+ crystallographers in Singapore!
Yours sincerely,
JJ VITTAL Chair, Local Organizing Committee, AsCA 2019

First International School on Advanced Porous Materials
-
In Como
It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you to the
First International School on Advanced Porous Materials (MOFSchool)
Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent-organic Frameworks (COFs) are non-conventional porous materials based on the self-assembly of organic/inorganic and organic/organic prearranged synthons, respectively. The extensive library of synthons and synthetic conditions can lead to the formation of a wide variety of MOFs and COFs with functional properties â€" adsorption, separation, capture, heterogeneous catalysis, sensing, drug delivery, to quote a few â€" that outperform, in many aspects, those of classical porous materials.
This field of research is progressing very fast, evolving from an initial interest on the synthesis and characterization of these systems to the preparation of targeted advanced porous materials with exotic properties.
Advanced porous materials functional properties are of interest to the ever increasingly demanding technological sector. Consequently, unique products based on them are arriving (or will soon arrive) on the market. Yet, there is still a large playground for making new materials and/or improving the properties of existing ones.
The big question is: How can we do it??
The MOFSchool aims to provide you with tools to answer this question, by showing you how to rationally prepare, characterize, modify and shape MOFs and COFs into next-generation materials. In order to achieve this goal, we have gathered an impressive group of internationally recognized teachers, including Vladislav A. Blatov, Silvia Bordiga, Roland A. Fischer, Felipe Gándara, Rob Ameloot, Kirill A. Lomachenko, Jeffrey R. Long, Jorge A.R. Navarro, Davide M. Proserpio and Omar M. Yaghiâ€
The MOFSchool, jointly organized by the Universities of Insubria, Milano La Statale and Granada, has made a great effort to encourage participation of young, enthusiastic scientists from any corner of the world, for which we are gratefully indebted to our generous funders.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Villa del Grumello
and we are sure you will have a very fruitful and pleasant stay on the amazing shores of the Lake of Como!
Sincerely yours,
Valentina Colombo, Simona Galli and Jorge A.R. Navarro (School Directors)

Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography 4 Structural Biology
-
In Dubrovnik, Mlini
HTCC4 will entirely be dedicated to structural biology. Over four intense working days, we shall cover techniques which go beyond classical crystallography, yet which complement it so smoothly: XFEL â€" X-ray free electron laser, cryo electron microscopy NMR in macromolecular structural research biomolecular in silico simulations. The lecturers and tutors shall explain fundamentals of these methodologies, give examples on their practical applications, tutor the practical and interactive sessions, and moderate round table discussions on how to apply these methods to your own research. The examples of particular systems studied with the presented methods shall emphasize intertwist between the four chosen hot topics in contemporary research. The complementarity of each of the hot topics with classical crystallography shall be discussed.
The principal HTCC target audiences are, apparently, young(ish) crystallographers, electron microscopists, NMRists and researchers in in silico simulations dealing with biomacromolecular systems. Nonetheless, we count on researchers from the domains of (bio)chemistry, physics, biology and life sciences from both industry and academia, who appreciate and take advantage of the structural studies, want to spice up their research with an additional hint of interdisciplinarity, or, simply learn what’s new in the dynamic world of structural research.
