We aim to promote an inclusive, friendly atmosphere, welcoming those both old and new to the community. Topics include instrument technology, sample preparation, image processing, single particle reconstruction, tomography and model building.

Bio: Grant Jensen is Dean of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. His research focused on three main areas: the ultrastructure of small cells, the structural biology of HIV, and the further development of cryo-ET technology. Prof. Joe Patterson Assistant Professor at University of California, Irvine Talk Title: Electrochemical Liquid TEM of Active Soft Matter Bio: Joe Patterson is an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on understanding molecular self-assembly through the development and application of Liquid and Cryo Electron Microscopy.

Frontiers of Structural Biology in Complex Environments, a symposium at the ACS National Meeting

Decades of careful experimentation and analysis by biophysical chemists have formed a foundation for contemporary scientists to understand the structure and function of proteins in the incredibly complex environments of living organisms. Recent advances in experimental and computational approaches have made it possible to describe and predict the structure, dynamics, and interactions of biomolecular assemblies in complex environments in vitro, in situ, in cells, and in the extracellular environment. Despite these exciting advances, many challenges remain in integrating techniques and approaches that span multiple time and length scales, and in understanding how atomic level changes drive functional biological outputs in the cellular environment. The symposium will bring together experimentalists and theorists who apply cutting-edge methods to determine the structure of biomolecules at or near atomic level precision in such environments. Speakers will discuss recent progress in the field and future challenges in the areas (1) atomic resolution studies of large complexes, (2) biomolecular condensation, (3) in situ studies in cell and cell-like environments, (4) in vitro cellular environments, and (5) biophysical experiments in multi-cellular environments.

The Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society (PSRS) has been organizing this International School and Symposium on Synchrotron Radiation (ISSRNS) since 1991. The aim of this interdisciplinary meeting is to bring together scientists and students working with synchrotron radiation. The meeting will focus on novel applications of synchrotron radiation in physics, chemistry, materials and life sciences.
The programme of the Symposium will comprise invited lectures (40 min), oral presentations (20 min), short contributions (10 min) and poster presentations. The short contributions are for students to present their research results. The official language of the meeting is English.
