At the Madrid IUCr congress in August, COMCIFS decided to develop a CIF API. A forum has now been set up at http://forums.iucr.org/viewforum.php?f=27
I urge any of you with an interest in establishing a standard CIF programming interface and library to join the forum and contribute.
best wishes for Christmas and the New Year,
James Hester.
